The boots, the polka dot dress… Pretty Woman: The Musical has all the film’s iconic looks-Metro News Reporter-Entertainment – Metro

One of the many things fans of Pretty Woman love are Vivian’s rich and varied outfits.

From those famous boots to that polka dot, fashion is front and centre in the film – and the musical is no different.

Of course, on stage outfit changes also need to be done in a flash – and there are more than 300 costumes across the whole cast.

Read on to discover the secrets of dressing Vivian, for the West End stage – and for your chance to win a luxury trip to LA, scene of the show.

Helen Hill, understudy for Aimie Atkinson, steps into Vivian’s shoes – or as Vivian would say her ‘bad-ass’ thigh-high boots. ‘I’ve got a picture up on my social media and someone thought I dressed up as Vivian for Halloween,’ says Helen. ‘I said, “No, it’s my job!”’ (Picture: Daniel Lynch)

Helen gets ready for the blonde wig Vivian wears while working Hollywood Boulevard’s famous Walk of Fame. Or as her best friend and fellow sex worker Kit puts it to the trespassing competition: ‘Vivian and me work from Bob Hope all the way down to Ella Fitzgerald. This is our turf!’ (Picture: Daniel Lynch)

One of Aimie’s favourite moments in the show is when her Vivian takes sweet revenge against the snobbish shop assistants who refused to serve her the day before. ‘You work on commission don’t you?’ she asks. Then after showing them the spoils bought in a different Rodeo Drive boutique she says: ‘Big mistake. Big. Huge!’, and leaves. ‘In the show it’s an even bigger moment than it is in the film because it’s been musicalised,’ says Aimie. ‘I love it!’ (Picture: Pretty Woman/Helen Maybanks)

Wardrobe assistant Hannah Varley and Helen as Vivian just before curtain up. Helen is wearing the first of ten costumes that chart Vivian’s change from low rent to high society. ‘I think there are about 300 costumes in the show. Every time Vivian’s on stage she’s in something different and all the ensemble members have different looks in every scene,’ says Hannah. ‘Whatever it is, it’s a lot!’ (Picture: Daniel Lynch)

Vivian understudy Helen holds up the classic polka dot dress. The movie version was brown, which ‘as a colour doesn’t read great under stage lights,’ explains wardrobe assistant Hannah Varley. ‘One time a hen party all in brown polka dresses came to see the show,’ says Helen. According to Aimie the dress has been copied by designers more than any other film garment (Picture: Daniel Lynch)

It’s all in the detail. When Vivian lies to Edward about charging $100 per hour he says: ‘You make a hundred an hour and you have a safety pin holding your boot up?’ (Picture: Daniel Lynch)

Danny Mac and Aimie as Edward and Vivian. ‘You might think Vivian’s just a sex worker on the street and a bit goofy,’ says Aimie. ‘But there is so much more to her than that. What is interesting about the show is that she doesn’t change – everyone around her does.’ (Picture: Pretty Woman/Helen Maybanks)
