The BBC swiftly deleted Sabrina Carpenter’s Live Lounge performance after she was said to have made a controversial outro… before reuploading a version without the ‘error’.

Radio 1’s Live Lounge offers musicians an opportunity to strut their stuff by performing a cover of a song by an artist they admire, while also plugging their own tracks.

What’s usually a serene affair of acoustic covers turned controversial enough for the BBC to delete a whole performance this week.

Enter 23-year-old Sabrina, who chose to cover Harry Styles’ Late Night Talking, before performing a stripped back version of her own song, Nonsense – which is where the whole hoo-ha stemmed from.

White the studio version of Nonsense ends with, ‘How quickly can you take your clothes off, pop quiz’, the actress and singer likes to jazz up live renditions with unique ad-libs each time she performs it.

In the singer’s Grammys performance for example, she opted for: ‘Usually I would say something nasty/ but I’ma keep it classy for the Grammys’.

On this particular night though, it’s claimed that the plucky performer went for: ‘I’m American I am not British/ So BBC it stands for something different/This live lounge is just so lit because I’m in it’ and added in a British accent: ‘Innit? because I’m in it, you get it?’

For anyone needing a further translation, Sabrina seemed to be referring to the other meaning of BBC, which is – most unfortunately for the broadcasting house – an anatomical reference with racial connotations in pornography.

Pop Crave first noticed the U-turn from the BBC and posted a screenshot of the missing video on Twitter, which then went viral, as fans of Sabrina’s commented: ‘We stand with Sabrina.’

BBC Radio 1 has deleted Sabrina Carpenter’s Live Lounge performance of “Nonsense” on YouTube after her ad-libbed outro was deemed inappropriate:

One said, ‘She ate them up I’m crying,’ while others commented on how hilarious it was that the BBC deleted the post.

Not everyone was happy with her choice of words though, as one person wrote: ‘I love Sab but why did she even say this?’

Fellow musician Charli XCX waded in with a positive response: ‘Sabrina Carpenter explaining BBC on the BBC is so funny I can’t.’

The BBC has since re-uploaded the Live Lounge performance, albeit with the studio version of the outro.

One person commented on the reinstated video: ‘Thank you for putting this back we love Sabrina. It’s her song she can say what she wants. If there’s any British people offended………. Get over it lol.’

A BBC spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘An unedited version of the video was briefly posted in error, and the correct version is now available for viewers to enjoy.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Sabrina Carpenter’s reps for comment.
