Ant and Dec are well versed in poking fun at other people during their Saturday Night Takeaway pranks, but now the tables have been turned on them.

On this week’s show, the long-time hosts went undercover at a Premier Inn in London to try and hoodwink guests as they checked in.

Instead of being met by a receptionist, the holidaymakers had to approach a machine, with what they thought was an automated voice checking them in, but turned out to be the boys.

The hidden camera was there to capture it all as Ant and Dec tested the waters to see how far they could drag out the prank.

Many guests weren’t too happy about having to interact with AI, but things got even stranger soon after.

Some customers were told to ‘speed up’ when sharing their booking reference and got buzzed if they weren’t quick enough, while others then had to stand in front of a microphone to record a message for the hotel’s apparent voice recognition system.

But when it came to a man named Ernest checking in, things took a turn.

Clearly wondering what was going on, he started pressing all the buttons on the screen and said he had an interest in technology and wanted to see what would unfold.

However, playing around with what was in front of him quickly lead to a bit of a problem after he managed to break the microphone and was reprimanded by the AI receptionist.

‘Stop touching me,’ he was told to which Ernest replied, ‘I should be so lucky’, sending the live audience into fits of laugher.

Then running through the hotel’s amenities, Ernest made sure to double check everything he was being offered was in fact free before accepting the complimentary underwear and socks with great enthusiasm.

When all was revealed, Ernest had the most unexpected reaction.

While other people jumped, laughed, and even swore as Ant and Dec were seen, Ernest instead called out the presenters.

‘This is a bit of a down market job for you two,’ he said.

‘Oh, how the mighty have fallen.’

Unsurprisingly those watching along at home totally lost it watching on.

‘I love Ernest, I am crying with laughter,’ one person posted on Twitter.

‘He is having absolutely none of this,’ another added.

Countless other people called him a legend and icon, while others called for him to be recognised further.

This prank landed with audiences a lot better than last weeks, which got the hosts into hot water after they were criticised for being ‘cruel’ to a first time dad.

In the hidden camera segment which took place over eight months, Liam was placed in the firing line of his pregnant partner Amy’s revenge as he was put through a series of made-up experiences.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
