Chris Rock has faced backlash after taking aim at Meghan Markle during his recent Netflix special.

The no-holds-barred comedy show, titled Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, aired live on Netflix in the UK in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The hour-long comedy special saw the comedian, 58, open up on the infamous Oscars slap he received from Will Smith, his opinions on ‘being a victim’, and Meghan Markle.

Rock took aim at the Duchess of Sussex, 41, and her husband Prince Harry while talking about their infamous Oprah interview in which the couple claimed a senior member of the Royal Family made a comment about the colour of skin of the couple’s then-unborn child Archie.

Comedians have shared their views of the comedy show, with many defending Rock for his set.

Loose Women panelist Judi Love shared her opinion of the jokes after seeing them performed live.

‘I saw it live! But lord it hits differently when you see it recorded knowing the world and specifically certain people can see it too!’ she wrote on Twitter.

Stand-up comedian and author Jim Gaffigan posted: ‘Like most comedians I’m continuously grateful for the existence of Chris Rock. Thank you comedy gods.’

Comedian London Hughes has defended the comedian, saying she doesn’t understand ‘followers being weird’ because of her support.

‘Don’t understand followers being weird with me for supporting Chris Rock, like you do know I’m a comedian right?’ she said.

‘Imagine it happened to one of your work colleagues?? Imagine Darren from Accounting randomly getting slapped by Will Smith, you wouldn’t watch Hitch again mate!’

Despite the support, many have taken to social media to criticise the comedian for his comments towards Markle, branding them ‘problematic’.

Activist and Undistracted host Brittany Packnett Cunningham posted: ‘His whole career has been about punching down on Black folk and making white people laugh with it. Black women especially. Times have changed & he hasn’t. The data is clear.’

She further added that she has not seen his new special, and will not be watching it.

Others said that Rock ‘doesn’t represent or speak for Black people’.

Megyn Kelly LOVED Chris Rock slamming Meghan Markle which is making me rethink it https://t.co/CHdg1xY1hg

Chris Rock jokes about Meghan Markle “hitting the light skin lottery” when she wanted to commit suicide. This will get you royally slapped. I know Meghan is at home calming Harry down. https://t.co/lb94oOIVVH

Chris Rock tells jokes for white people only. He knew mentioning Meghan Markle was going to get white people to clap for him. Chris Rock doesn’t represent or speak for black people in any way. Comedians like Chris Rock are problematic and really set us back.

Chris Rock is a rich man who spent the past year crying about being slapped but he says meghan markle is privileged and should just endure the racism. Well endure the slap Chris. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Watching people in real time use Chris Rock to continue to go after Meghan Markle is exactly why I didn’t feel bad when he got slapped.

Stand-up comedian Pete Dominick retweeted a post from journalist Megyn Kelly praising the show, saying: ‘Megyn Kelly LOVED Chris Rock slamming Meghan Markle which is making me rethink it.’

Richard Madeley has weighed into the conversation about the comedian, expressing how ‘unbelievably rude’ Chris Rock apparently was when he interviewed him.

On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Richard and Susanna Reid chatted about the slapping incident following a joke Rock made about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

‘I’m not defending what happened to him, it’s wrong, completely wrong. But in 50 years in this game, he is rudest man I’ve ever had to interview, Chris Rock,’ the 66-year-old stated,’ Madeley said.

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage is available to stream on Netflix.
