I wore a £17 wedding dress on my big day… I spent hundreds on a posh one too, but it just didn’t give the right vibe
A 2023 Bride has revealed how she ditched her pricey gown for a £17 dress two weeks before her big day – and claims it was the best decision she could have made.
Rosaleen Teague took to Facebook to encourage other brides to consider budget gowns, after finding the perfect dress on sale at Shein for £17.

The savvy shopper opted for a £17 a-line dress, with sheer sleeves and lace detailing
The savvy shopper, who tied the knot on March 31 in Queensland, Australia, admits to feeling as though she was supposed to buy an expensive designer frock.
But was thrilled with her final look, which she finished with a £3 veil and a pair of £50 trainers.
Sharing some photos, taken by Leah Cohen Photography, from the big day in the Shein Addicts Australia group, she said: “So I had bought a fairly expensive, fancy wedding dress about 6 months before we got married but then decided something just didn’t feel right with it.
“So 2 weeks before the wedding I ordered this one from Shein for $32 and the veil for $6 and it was the BEST decision!
“It fit in great with our casual theme and was so soft and comfortable, it was just perfect for the Queensland weather!”
The Eilly Bazar Sheer Insert Scallop Trim Lace Dress is still available on the Shein website in a size 6 to 16 and is now priced at £21.49 on the UK site.
She also shared some pictures of her first pick – a strapless lace gown with a blush underlayer, sweetheart neckline and long, sheer train.
Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, Rosaleen added: “So the original dress was $750, not overly expensive for some but it really was out of our budget.
“But I felt like I was ‘supposed’ to stretch to something we couldn’t really afford as that’s the done thing, isn’t it?
“I haven’t put it up for sale yet but I will in the coming days, hopefully, I can make some of my money back.”
On the day, she paired it with a pair of personalised white ballet lace slip Converse, embroidered with ‘Mr’, ‘Mrs’ and their wedding date, ‘31.3.23’.
Discussing her footwear choice with another Facebook user, she said: “Thank you! I bloody loved the shoes. With all the running around after twin toddlers, they were the best choice too.”
Her thrifty final look attracted plenty of attention online, gaining more than 386 likes.
Below the post, Facebook fans shared their reactions, many praising her decision.
One wrote: “That looks amazing. Absolutely stunning, congratulations.”
“I want a casual wedding now,” commented another.
A third added: “LOVE everything about your outfit. You look amazing.”
Someone else put: “Gorgeous choice.”
