As part of the royal process, Charles acceded the throne on September 8, 2022 upon the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, and now must be officially crowned as the new monarch.

As well as the coronation, a special concert will take place at Windsor Castle and will be aired by the BBC on Sunday, May 7.

BBC have confirmed the former Desert Island Discs host, 54, will be leading the coverage alongside Huw Edwards and Zoe Ball.

Speaking about the upcoming gig, Kirsty said: ‘I’m very happy indeed to be part of the BBC’s Coronation coverage, as our cameras capture history in the making. Ceremony, spectacle and a right royal celebration – it’s got all the ingredients of a weekend worth watching.’

BBC broadcaster Huw – who led coverage of the Queen’s funeral – added: ‘Few broadcasters have the privilege of working on a Coronation and I’m delighted to be involved. People will be relying on the BBC for coverage of what promises to be a memorable weekend.’

Kirsty’s upcoming presenting role comes after she took a break from Desert Island Discs in 2018, before Lauren Laverne took over permanently, and she stepped away the following year due to illness.
