Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is finally arriving on PS5 but when is it out and what new dangers will Aloy face in her journey to save the planet?

After combing through every nook and cranny of the Forbidden West region in Horizon Forbidden West, it’s now time to set out on new exploits with the release of the upcoming Burning Shores DLC.

The announcement trailer revealed that Burning Shores has a strong emphasis on sky and sea exploration, promising a whole new world to discover, complete with new mecha-creatures to tame.

Developer Guerrilla Games hasn’t said an awful lot about the expansions so far but let’s delve into everything we know about Aloy’s new adventure in the untamed wilderness of what was once Los Angeles…

Will Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores be released on PS4?

Given that some publishers have opted to concentrate exclusively on the new generation of consoles, it’s no longer a given that all releases will be available on PlayStation 4.

Sadly, this is the case with the Burning Shores DLC, which will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, despite the parent game being available on PlayStation 4.

What’s the reason for the PlayStation 5-only release, you may ask? Apparently, the developers have revamped the clouds system to ensure the game’s open world cloudscape looks even more realistic… but in a way only the PlayStation 5 hardware can manage.

What’s Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores release date?

The official release date for the highly-anticipated DLC is Wednesday, April 19, with pre-orders having been available for some time now.

As soon as the clock strikes midnight, you should be able to download Burning Shores from the PlayStation Store.

How much does Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores cost?

Since Burning Shores is DLC and not a full game, it comes with a substantially lower price tag than a full game, launching at a cost of £15.99 in the UK.

Of course, to access the DLC, you’ll need to have Horizon Forbidden West, which itself carries a heftier price tag of £69.99.

As per the game’s official PlayStation Store page, you must complete the main quest (up to and including Singularity) of Horizon Forbidden West to access Burning Shores.

Although playing all previous entries may prove helpful in understanding the story, the only required game to delve into the DLC is Forbidden West.

What are the pre-order bonuses for Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores?

If you decide to be an early bird and pre-order Burning Shores from the PlayStation Store, you’ll receive a couple of in-game goodies as a sweet little bonus.

Here’s what you’ll receive:

Where is Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores set?

In Horizon Forbidden West, you followed Aloy through the ruins of the western United States, but Burning Shores will open up new locations for you to explore.

The expansion will take you to the remains of Southern California, where various Los Angeles landmarks will play a significant role, as shown in the recent teasers.

Specially, Aloy will be ‘travelling to a dangerous new region south of the Tenakth Clan Lands, featuring a compelling storyline following from where Horizon Forbidden West ended, new characters, adventures, and more.’

Does Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores have multiplayer gameplay?

Considering that all the previous Horizon games have been strictly solo adventures, it would be quite a shocker if Burning Shores suddenly turned into a multiplayer experience. The DLC is listed as a single-player game that can also be enjoyed offline.

While there’s still yet to be a formal reveal, Guerrilla Games has admitted to a multiplayer project’s existence.

That game likely won’t be hitting your screen any time soon, although a recent leak has already given a sneak peek at what it may look like.

Does Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores feature VR support?

Although Guerrilla Games recently dabbled in VR with the release of Horizon Call Of The Mountain, which was exclusive to the PlayStation VR 2, that won’t be the case for Burning Shores.

The DLC expansion doesn’t appear to have any VR support at release.
