Josie Gibson has admitted she’s considering spending more than £1,000 for a 50p coin of King Charles III.

A crowned portrait of the monarch will feature on a new range of commemorative coins, which includes a 50p and a £5 coin in the collection, to celebrate the upcoming coronation.

The effigy, which was designed by artist and sculptor Martin Jennings, depicts Charles wearing the Tudor Crown, with the 50p coin also featuring his cypher and crown to symbolise him being inside the abbey where he is to be crowned.

The 50p coins will be available to buy from 9am on April 24 for between £11 and £1,220, while the £5 coins are priced between £14.50 and £2,995.

And while that seems an immense amount to spend, This Morning’s Josie, who was standing in for hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield with Craig Doyle, admitted she’d be keen to add it to her collection.

She said on Thursday’s programme: ‘I collect 50ps, I’ve collected 50ps for years!’

Despite hearing the coins aren’t ‘cheap’, she said: ‘I’m always on the royal mint. Always’.

‘It’s not tender is it, it’s just a thing,’ journalist Tom Swarbick replied, but Josie was adamant: ‘You can’t [buy it], but it’s a beautiful thing to have in your collection’.

Josie then revealed she has ‘books’ of 50p coins in her collection, saying: ‘Books and books and books of them!’

She added: ‘If you’re a collector, you’re a collector,’ while Craig joked about her having £50 worth of coins.

Josie jokingly added that while she’s keen for the 5p, the £77,000 one kilogram solid gold prove coin is ‘a little bit out of my budget’.

‘But I do like a 50p!’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
