Race Across the World fans were left feeling uncomfortable during Wednesday night’s instalment of the hit BBC show.

As teams of two continue to race across Canada without flying or using smartphones and on tiny budgets, married contestants Zainib, 32, and Mobeen, 31, visited a rodeo ranch in Saskatchewan.

They agreed to work at the ranch in exchange for bed and board, and during one particularly awkward lunch with the Christian family in charge of the farm, they revealed they were Muslims.

Zainib and Mobeen were met with a painfully awkward silence, which didn’t go unnoticed.

Taking to Twitter to discuss the moment, one person wrote: ‘Uncomfortable to watch the initial reaction that family had to Zainab and Mobeen revealing they are Muslim. I thought Christians were meant to be loving. Yikes.’

Another social media user echoed: ‘It’s strange that the Christian family didn’t seem accepting when they said they were Muslim. Not very Christian!!?’ while someone else tweeted: ‘That silence was awful. FFS, they’re Muslims get over it.’

Uncomfortable to watch the initial reaction that family had to Zainab and Mobeen revealing they are Muslim. I thought Christians were meant to be loving. They had plenty of signs hung around their place saying Jesus loves you. Yikes 😒 #RaceAcrossTheWorld

‘Eeek – the silencewhen Zainib says they’re Muslim,’ another social media user chimed in.

Touching upon the awkward encounter, Zainib said during the show: ‘I didn’t really expect it to go as silent as it did.

‘There was a noticeable change. It’s uncomfortable but I think it’s important they know we are Muslim and we’re really nice and normal people.’

Last month, Metro.co.uk had the pleasure of catching up with Zainib to talk about the show and how it affected her and Mobeen’s marriage.

‘We’ve been married nine years now and [the show] has made us stronger,’ Zainib shared, adding: ‘It’s made me realize how glad I am that he’s my person.’

As for whether the stress of racing across a continent sans credit cards and internet sparked many arguments, Zainib gave an impressively level-headed response.

‘Like with any relationship, there are going to be times when you get on each other’s nerves and have a bit of a falling out because you disagree or whatnot, but nothing major.’
