The BBC has teased the first look images of Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon in character for the upcoming season of Doctor Who.
The queen may be used to slaying her competition on the runway, but she’s going to be giving a new competitor a run for their money when going up against the Doctor.
Earlier this month the drag queen, who won the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2013, was announced as one of the stars on the upcoming 14th season of the long-running sci-fi programme.
While we don’t yet know just what role she will be playing, or even what her character will be called, BBC has given a sneak peek of her in costume.
Sporting a piano inspired outfit, with a vest and collar designed with keys, she is also wearing a long black sparkly cape with striking shoulder pads.
Her signature orange locks have been styled in a head-turning up-do, reminiscent of Bette Midler’s hairstyle in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus.
Sharing a photo and video of the queen in character, the latter showed her teasing audiences with her new role.
‘I’m Jinkx Monsoon and this is my costume for Doctor Who,’ she said while laughing at the camera.
All the BBC would give away was mentioned in the caption, which read: ‘Jinkx Monsoon has landed and started filming for Doctor Who and here is the first look image of her in character…as the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet!’
Unsurprisingly the teasers were both met with lots of fanfare, including from Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, who posted an emoji with heart eyes on one post.

Meanwhile others said Jinkx looked ‘so amazing’, while another said the show had ‘levelled up’.
‘This might make me start watching Doctor Who again,’ another wrote.
Someone else added that the ‘yassification of Doctor Who can’t come soon enough’.

Some are also offering theories on how the story might play out (Picture: Instagram)
Others started guessing that Jinkx might be playing a musical villain due to the details in her outfit, and the fact she’s had plenty of musical theatre experience, previously appearing in productions of Rent, Hairspray and Chicago.
When her casting was announced, showrunner Russell T Davies promised her character would be on ‘a collision course with the TARDIS’.
‘I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who,’ Jinkx said at the time.
‘Russell is a visionary and a brilliant writer. I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.’
