WWE announced Seth Rollins versus Omos for Backlash and fans aren’t quite sure what to think.

The company continued to flesh out the card for the upcoming show in Puerto Rico on May 6 with three big matches added during Friday night’s episode of SmackDown.

Rhea Ripley will defend her SmackDown Women’s Title against Zelina Vega while the issues between United States Champion Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley and Bronson Reed will bubble over into a Triple Threat for the gold.

However, it’s the clash between The Visionary and the Nigerian Giant which has left fans baffled.

There have been no interactions between the two on Raw leading to the announcement, with Omos rebuilding momentum after his WrestleMania loss to Brock Lesnar.

The match appears to have come out of nowhere, and while there must be some logic to it – perhaps a way to give Seth an impressive win over the towering star – it’s caught almost everyone by surprise.

Even Seth himself didn’t seem sure what to make of it, as he simply shared the announcement alongside a gif of Jim Carrey from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

‘Allllllrighty then,’ he quipped.

‘Seth is really facing Omos at a PLE. Just randomly ’ laughed one viewer, while a second person asked: ‘Seth Rollins against Omos at Backlash. Did I miss something here?’

‘Seth Vs Omos is so random but I’m oddly intrigued at the Same Time #SmackDown (sic)’ admitted another fan, while a fourth viewer compared it to something from a WWE video game.

‘Lol Seth vs Omos at Backlash? Universe Mode af,’ they tweeted, with a different fan adding: ‘At the very least have Omos come out and challenge anybody and Seth accepts. This is so random. Don’t doubt Seth gives him a good match though.’

Some people are staying optimistic, with yet another viewer weighing in and offering a prediction for the match as they said: ‘When Seth climbs to the top rope to curb stomp Omos >’

WWE does have time to build to the match on May 6, which comes a few days after the draft, which suggests this could be a way to get Seth Rollins onto the major card at a time when building a proper rivalry might not fit plans after the shakeup.

The show will also see Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Matt Riddle battle The Bloodline, while Cody Rhodes is confirmed to face Brock Lesnar.
