I cut my nan’s wedding dress to wear as a co-ord – trolls say I was wrong but she loved it so much she burst into tears

PEOPLE have been left divided after a bride decided to chop up her grandmother’s wedding dress and turn it into a chic co-ord for her rehearsal dinner.

Brittany shared a sweet clip from the moment she walked into her venue, where she’s seen wearing a chic ivory lace two-piece with extravagant puff-sleeves.

Brittany took to TikTok to share the sweet moment she revealed to her grandmother that she has reworked her wedding gown to wear at her rehearsal dinnertiktok/@brittanyltibbs

Both Britanny’s mum and grandmother had worn the dress on their big daystiktok/@brittanyltibbs

But not all were in favour of her chopping up the dress, with some even suggesting they’d ‘hate’ it if their granddaugher did the sametiktok/@brittanyltibbs

But it’s her grandmother’s reaction as she notices that it’s her old dress that’s grabbed people’s attention.

In a new TikTok reel, Brittany, known online as @brittanyltibbs, said: “Third generation wedding dress turned into a rehersal dress.”

During the 23-second video, her grandmother already looks excited when she spots her granddaughter entering the church where she will tie the knot.

But as her Brittany walks closer, her face changes.

First her jaw drops open, before she is heard shouting, ‘oh my god… no way’.

Brittany then goes on to share pictures from when it was worn first by her grandmother on her wedding day, and then again by her mother on her’s.

The first time it appears to have long sleeves and scoop neckline. The a-line style dress is also covered in ivory lace, and was accompanied with a short, shoulder-length veil.

When Brittany’s mother wore it, it has already undergone some changes. The dress now has a sweetheart neckline and dramatic puff-sleeves, while the skirt has been taken in to be more of a column shape.

The content creator then shows how she reworked the dress into a two-piece co-ord, made up of a mini skirt and crop top.

The top has the same puff sleeves but a deeper v-neckline, and has been taken in like a corset around the body.

Brittany’s idea attracted plenty of attention online, gaining more than 1.8 million likes and 9.8 million views.

In the comments, TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “This is so precious.”

Another said: “This is so sweet. Also the dress is beautiful on everyone.”

“I’m in tears,” a third added.

“I love this. My dress will probably stay in a box until it’s thrown out. If my granddaughter wanted to wear it but in her style I’d be so happy,” commented one other.

However TiKTokkers were divided on her choice to rework her grandmother’s dress, with another writing: “The cut is gorgeous but i would hate to cut such a dress if it were for 3 gens.”

“Hiding the fact that she is like ‘what the hell did u do’,” suggested another.

Someone else put: “I wouldn’t have cut it into 2 pieces. You can alter it to be the more current style but now the next generation doesn’t have a dress…”
