BBC presenter Huw Edwards appeared to make a subtle dig at former Prime Minister Liz Truss during coverage of King Charles III’s Coronation.

Regular broadcasting has been interrupted across channels including BBC and ITV for special shows covering the monumental event.

Edwards, 61, who also led coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s death and funeral in September, was commentating on the arrivals at Westminster Abbey when he appeared to make a cheeky dig.

Former Prime Minister Truss and her husband Hugh O’Leary were following ex-Conservatives leader Boris Johnson and wife Carrie Johnson when Edwards reminded viewers of her short stint in office.

He said: ‘And then Prime Minister for a very brief period, Liz Truss with her husband Hugh O’Leary.’

As coverage continued, viewers were quick to pick up on the moment.

‘Thanks Huw,’ one laughed, while another wrote: ‘Just brilliant.’

‘Absolutely LOVE that man! #HuwEdwards,’ someone else said.

Edwards had been referring to Truss remaining in her position as Prime Minister for just 44 days.

She announced her resignation on October 20, breaking a few records as she did, the most prominent being the shortest serving PM (as well as the only PM to be beaten by a lettuce).

Her stint also managed to be shorter than a singular series of Love Island, as host Iain Stirling pointed out, shorter than Kim Kardashian’s notoriously short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries, and even – would you believe it – shorter than Jedward lasted in the live shows of The X Factor.

In fact, her 44 days in office were the exact same number of days David Blaine lasted in that box above the Thames.
