Rolf Harris joked to Jimmy Savile about leaving a young girl ‘safely’ in his ‘capable hands’ in chilling footage that’s due to appear in a new documentary about the disgraced entertainer.

In 2014, Harris was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison on 12 counts of indecent assault on four female victims, including a girl under the age of 10. One of the 12 convictions was overturned three years later after being ruled unsafe by three judges.

The now-93-year-old was released from jail in May 2017, and in October 2022 it was claimed that he was under 24-hour care after allegedly developing cancer in his neck.

ITV has produced a two-part documentary titled Rolf Harris: Hiding In Plain Sight, which is said to tell ‘the extraordinary truth behind the rise and fall of former national treasure Rolf Harris using rare archive and exclusive testimony from those closest to the trial’.

Several of Harris’ accusers appear in the programme, waiving their right to anonymity so that they can tell their stories, with the film said to include ‘exclusive new testimony’ and ‘reveal the unseen evidence that led to his downfall’.

The documentary is said to include footage from an episode of Savile’s TV show Jim’ll Fix It, which first began airing in the 1970s.

Savile, who died in 2011 at the age of 84, was exposed as a prolific child sex abuser and sex offender after his death.

In the clip, Savile presented Harris with a young girl who was said to have wanted to help him with one of his paintings.

‘Come here, turn around, look at the ladies and gentlemen. You see this young lady sir? She wishes that she could help you with one of your paintings. Do you think that I may leave her in your charge?’ Savile said to Harris in the clip.

Convicted sex offender Harris then replied: ‘Safely leave her in my capable hands here. I’ll just roll my sleeves up.’

Beforehand, Savile supposedly read Harris a letter that read: ‘It do say here, “Dear Jimmy, I have always wanted to see Rolf Harris doing one of his paintings, please could you fix it for me. Love, Lynn.”’

While doing the painting, according to The Mirror, Harris said to the young girl: ‘Enjoying it so far? Give them a big smile because they only see the back of your head otherwise, you see?’

He later reportedly said to Savile after the artwork was finished: ‘She is anxious to run away.’

The host of the show responded: ‘She is, I’ve got fast hold of her here,’ as Harris added: ‘You stay here and enjoy it, girl.’ There is no indication that Lynn was the victim of abuse.

In a statement made in private investigator William Merritt’s book Rolf Harris: The Defence Team’s Special Investigator Reveals the Truth Behind the Trials, Harris said: ‘I understand we live in the post truth era and know few will want to know what really happened during the three criminal trials I faced – it’s easier to condemn me and liken me to people like [Jimmy] Saville and [Gary] Glitter.

‘I was convicted of offences I did not commit in my first trial. That is not just my view but the view of the Court of Appeal who overturned one of my convictions. I had already served the prison sentence by the time of the appeal.

‘I changed my legal team after the first trial, and I was told that if the truth was out there, William [Merritt] would find it and he did. The evidence he found proved my innocence to two subsequent juries.

‘I’d be in prison serving a sentence for crimes I did not commit if it were not for William’s investigation. It is difficult to put into words the injustice that I feel.’

Rolf Harris: Hiding in Plain Sight is due to air on Thursday May 18 on ITV.
