Former WWE star Jinny has reflected on the strength she gained from having husband GUNTHER supporting her through her devastating injury and decision to retire.
The NXT UK wrestler, who recently celebrated her marriage to the Intercontinental Champion with their friends and family after previously tying the knot, admitted it means a lot being in a relationship with someone who truly understands the business.
She exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘So much! Not everyone can understand wrestling. Not everybody can understand, when you have a passion, when you have a dream – they can see and support you.
‘But having your husband be in that world as well, it made a huge difference because he understand the pain that I was feeling in my heard for not being able to wrestle.
‘But he was great, he supported by through it and he made my recovery so much easier just by being there.’
The 35-year-old star announced her retirement from wrestling in January after a long spell out due to what she has described as the worst concussion of her career.

She forced herself to rest during her recovery, focusing on being ‘smart’ and not trying to push the process ‘too quickly’.
‘As much as we love wrestling, your body is there for the rest of your life. For both of us, especially for him, he had a really good head on his shoulders. He understood, “Take your time, and really recover,”‘ she said.
‘For me, having to take that time away from wrestling and sit back, I also got to see the incredible journey he’s been on.’
Part of that was moving to the United States as GUNTHER embarked on career in NXT and then SmackDown (while he has since been drafted to the Raw brand), and she’s loved seeing her man’s growth.

‘To be part of that, to see the whole world see how absolutely incredible he is, how talented, how passionate. He’s one of the best wrestlers, period,’ she beamed.
For Jinny and GUNTHER, who grew up in England and Austria respectively, it was quite the ‘culture shock’ moving to the US – as well as sunnier climates.
‘Doing it together, that made it easier because we’re there together and it’s our home,’ she explained. ‘We’re getting used to everything, we’re getting to used to not having the seasons, because it’s pretty much summer all year long. It’s lovely, it has a really good upside. It’s a great adventure as well.’
For Jinny, her career may have been cut short due to injury, but she has been able to reflect and be proud of everything she achieved since her debut in 2015.
‘I am really grateful for what wrestling has given me! It has given me so much. It’s given me amazing opportunities to work for all these fantastic promotions, to make history as well, all those accomplishments,’ she smiled.
Indeed, during her career she became a two-time PROGRESS Women’s Champion, as well as the first woman to hold that title along with gold in RevPro, while making history as the first to wrestle and later main event a PROGRESS chapter show and later appearing at WWE WrestleMania Axxess before even signing a contract.
When she did sign, she was just three years into her career, proving her clear potential.
All that said, there’s also the personal side too, with Jinny first meeting GUNTHER as friends in 2016 when they were both on the same scene across the UK and Europe.

‘Wrestling gave me amazing friends and it has given me my husband as well. If it wasn’t for wrestling, I might have not met my husband. For that, I’m so grateful,’ she admitted.
‘I’m so happy, my heart’s so full. I get to see him live his dream to the fullest, and that’s a fantastic journey to be a part of.’
While she still has the ‘drive’ to push on and find out what’s next for her in life – whether that’s in or out of wrestling – she will always keep a ‘very positive outlook on life’.

‘You always have to have drive in you, you always have to continue to move forward, because life doesn’t stop for anybody,’ she said.
‘You always have to have a very positive outlook in life, but looking back – I met the love of my life, I met great friends, and even though I didn’t make it to main roster, I still got to live my dream. For that, all of those things, I am very, very grateful.’
