Rylan Clark and Scott Mills were forced to catch a lift from Liverpool emergency services amid Eurovision pandemonium.

The former It Takes Two presenter, 34, and radio DJ, 50, are hosting coverage of the long-running competition, alongside the likes of Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham.

The night before the grand final, the two BBC stars decided to head out for dinner in the northern city, which is doing the honours for last year’s winners Ukraine, but chaos ensued.

The Celebrity Big Brother contestant and Scott were left stranded after dining out – and were unable to book a cab for their trip back to the hotel.

But, fortunately, they sourced another form of transport, the Merseyside Water Rescue, which came to their aid.

Rylan, who was sporting a high-vis jacket, explained the drama on a Story posted on his Instagram.

Directing the emergency workers to their accommodation, Scott is heard remarking: ‘This is ridiculous.’

Rylan, meanwhile, explained: ‘So basically there’s been no cars.’

Scott interjected: ‘Well we did leave dinner at the exact time when everyone was leaving the arena.’

Rylan continued: ‘We didn’t realise the arena was kicking out at that point, well done everyone. And then Merseyside Water Rescue has just come to our aid and they put us on a boat but we couldn’t get out of the dock.

‘So Merseyside Water Rescue has decided to take us back to our hotel, which I think is lovely and thank you for the high vis.’

Rylan later shared a picture of himself, Scott and the Merseyside Water Rescue team in matching high-vis, captioning the post: ‘Thanks to Merseyside Water Rescue for getting us home tonight. No cars….. you legends thanks for the hi vis x.’

Rylan hasn’t had the best of luck with Eurovision transport, after previously suffering a nightmare train journey to get to Liverpool.

The former X Factor contestant revealed all the trains from Euston station in London had been suspended due to rail disruption over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Fortunately, however, he managed to catch a train and made friends with his fellow stranded passengers.

The Eurovision Song Contest airs tonight on BBC One and iPlayer from 8pm.
