Jennifer Lopez. Pharrell Williams. Paul Rudd. Three celebrities who are notorious for their commitment to simply not aging.

However, not even the most frozen-in-time famous faces have anything on Link’s anti-aging routine.

Link, the famed protagonist from the iconic Zelda franchise, has basically stayed around the same age since the first Legend of Zelda game in 1986.

But, with the release of the already universally acclaimed (and record-breaking!) Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, just how old is he actually meant to be?

How old is Link from the Zelda games?

The answer is… nobody really knows.

Hope that clears things up. No? You need more? Fine.

So it turns out that Link isn’t actually one singular person. Link is the name given to a hero chosen by the goddesses to rise up against the evil forces threatening the land of Hyrule.

To that end, he’s sort of like James Bond – he’s always called James Bond, or 007, but he’s not meant to be the same person.

Multiple sources attached to the development of the franchise don’t help pinpointing an age, either, as they all state something different.

Hyrule Historia says that Link is 10 years old in the first game, The Legend of Zelda. This was released back in 1986, so if Zelda followed a chronological timeline, he should be 37 today.

Which he most clearly is not in the new game.

As reported by Zelda Wiki, an Iwata Asks with the development team from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (released in 1998) suggests that the Link in that game travels between the ages of 9 and 16.

On the more out-there age suggestions for Link, he could be 117. This is taken from clues in 2017’s Breath of the Wild.

Princess Zelda mentions during gameplay that a person needs to be at least 17 years old to climb Mt. Lanayru and visit the Spring of Wisdom. In Breath of the Wild, Link does just that. So, he’s at least 17. However, he wakes up from a 100-year-slumber at the start of the game.
