The people behind the unforgettable Paddington sketch featuring Queen Elizabeth II moved Bafta TV Award viewers in tears with their moving tribute to the late royal.
Last year, the monarch celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne with her Platinum Jubilee festivities, which included a star-studded concert with performers including Diana Ross, George Ezra and Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder.
Members of the public who watched the programme weren’t expecting the Queen herself to become the star of the show, as she opened the concert with an adorable skit opposite the beloved Paddington Bear, voiced in the live-action movies by Ben Whishaw.
The Queen and Paddington shared tea together, with the royal even revealing that she had a sandwich secretly stashed away in her handbag.
The sketch – which aired three months before the Queen’s death aged 96 – was dubbed the ‘best thing’ by viewers, and on Sunday May 14, it won the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award at the Bafta TV Awards.
The creators behind the skit arrived on stage to accept the accolade, with voice actor Ben, 42, opening the acceptance speech.

‘Thank you everybody for… thank you everyone who voted for us. Thank you very much,’ the James Bond actor said.
Simon Farnaby, who played the disgruntled footman in the performance, then took centre stage at the podium.
‘Yes, the good old British voting public. You see, sometimes they do get it right!’ he began.
‘Thanks go to the mostly invisible team of wonderful filmmakers who created this lovingly handcrafted moment.

‘I can tell you that Paddington and the Queen had a very joyful Jubilee tea that day, but it was also perhaps a farewell, because of course, the person who most deserves this award is no longer with us to receive it. We can only accept it on her behalf and say, thank you ma’am, for everything.’
Several people reacted to the clip of the acceptance speech on Twitter by expressing how emotional the tribute to Queen Elizabeth II made them.
‘That was very sweet…thank you ma’am for everything. She is missed,’ one person wrote.
