Great Fairies will grant you useful gear upgrades in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom but they won’t come out of their fountains for just anyone.

Unlike in Breath Of The Wild, where Great Fairy fountains were quite difficult to locate in Hyrule, in Tears Of The Kingdom, you can easily spot them near prominent points of interest.

Chances are, you’ll come across one of the Great Fairy fountains at the start of your journey, as they are situated in plain sight of various stables throughout Hyrule – simply keep an eye out for the purple smoke in the distance.

There are four Great Fairies in the game, and you’ll need to complete certain tasks before you can visit and speak to them. So, here’s where all four Great Fairies fountains are located and how to summon them…

Upon discovering a Great Fairy fountain, you’ll notice a significant change from Breath Of The Wild. The Great Fairies will now demand you play them some delightful tunes instead of coughing up a hefty sum of rupees.

However, to embark on this quest, you must first become a reporter for the Lucky Clover Gazette.

Where to find the Lucky Clover Gazette

The Lucky Clover Gazette is located in the northwest part of the map, east of Lake Totori and Rito Village. It’s in a former horse stable, so it’s very easy to find, even if it’ll probably be covered in snow when you first visit it.

To join as a reporter all you have to do is speak with the owners inside and they’ll sign you up. It’s all free and it opens up several other side quests, including one that rewards you with the frog armour if you complete it.

Great Fairy Tera location

Location: Northwest of Woodland Stable by the Military Training Camp

Once you become a reporter the first Great Fairy you can summon is Tera. To begin your journey, you need to head over to the Woodland Stable across the big river northeast of Hyrule Castle.

At the Woodland Stable, you’ll come across a musical troupe who want to perform for Great Fairy Tera but require assistance fixing their cart. Swapping out their wheels with Ultrahand is a simple job, but you’ll need the Towing Harness key item to haul the cart. To obtain it, accumulate three pony points from any stable by registering a wild horse and visiting a couple of different stables.

After unlocking the Towing Harness, speak to the front desk when taking out a horse and attach the harness to customise it. Position your horse near the cart, drag the cart towards the harness, and attach it.

With that done, go up the hillside with the cart and horse in tow to reach the Great Fairy. This will enable you to activate the first of four Great Fairies.

Great Fairy Mija location

Location: North of Snowfield Stable

The Great Fairy Mija is perched on a sloping mountain to the north of Snowfield Stable, and far northwest of the Woodland Stable where you found the first Great Fairy. Mija desires the sound of a horn to emerge from her hiding place.

One of the performers required to play the horn is stuck in a large hole near the road leading west of the Tabantha Great Bridge and Stable. Help the musician by lifting his wagon out of the hole, and he will be grateful by giving you some valuable courser bee honey as a reward.

Upon returning to Snowfield Stable, equip their carriage with a roof and stay alert for bokoblins on horseback when reaching the second Great Fairy.

Great Fairy Cotera location

Location: South of Dueling Picks Stable by Little Twin Bridge

To find the Great Fairy Cotera near the Dueling Peaks Stable, your first task is to track down the missing drummer, Beetz. He can be found in a little nook to the right of the path leading to Kakariko Village.

To persuade him to come back, he’ll ask for three courser bee honey items, which you should have from rescuing the horn player. If not, you can find them in the woods behind the Great Fairy or by the chasm above the village. After you’ve got the honey, it’s time to use your Ultrahand to help the musical troupe cross the river.

Great Fairy Kaysa location

Location: West of Outskirt Stable

To summon the final Great Fairy Kaysa, you’ll need to locate the flutist who is perched on a tree outside Highland Stable, south of Lake Hylia. He’ll require 10 sunset fireflies to rejoin the group, which can be found in the northern forests at night or can be bought from a nearby traveling merchant.

After getting the fireflies, the flutist will rejoin the musical troupe, and you’ll need to upgrade their cart’s wheels to tackle the uphill journey. Once all four Great Fairies are active, you can upgrade your armour to a four-star rank.
