I’m a fashion expert and this is what your sunglasses really say about you PLUS why mirrored aviators are a mistake

THE sun is finally starting to shine which means it’s time for sunglasses.

The must have summer accessory that we all use is both practical and a fashion statement in equal measure.

It’s vital to get a pair that comes with a UV protection sticker so you know that your shades are going to stop the sun’s harmful rays from damaging your eyesight.

But your go-to style of specs are saying a lot about you.

It doesn’t matter if you go for a designer pair or pick up a bargain in Primark, the shape and style reveal everything.

From round to small to cat-eye, here Fabulous’ fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend reveals what your sunglasses say about you.

AVIATOR – SHY

GettyBe wary of reflective aviators.[/caption]

The timeless design of a classic aviator is an upside down teardrop shaped with a straight top.

Created in the 1930’s the shape was designed so that pilots could have full eye coverage while flying.

Due to their large shape that covers a lot of the face and sometimes part of the cheek shows you are shy.

While reflective lenses were first intended to help pilots see better (and reflect the sun) these days they come with a caution warning.

Just like a mirror they show everything you’re looking at, so they should be avoided when on your phone or laptop as passers by will be able to see everything you’re looking at.

WAYFARER – LAZY

The wayfarer shape of sunglasses was invented by Ray-Ban in the fifties and are a standard design.

They have a straight bar that sits horizontally on the nose and rounded lenses with top corners that are slightly extended for an angular shape.

Wayfarers show you’re laid back.

You’re not bothered about the latest must have trend of the moment you just stick to your reliable shades that have been a hit for years.

They’re a pair that go with every look for every occasion be it sitting in the park, on the beach or just on a stroll to the shops.

ROUND – DATED

GettyRound sunglasses mean your style is old-fashioned.[/caption]

Small, round sunglasses have been in and out of fashion for years.

A hit in the roaring twenties to a comeback in the eighties and beyond they’re a boomerang trend you can rely on.

Until now.

If they’re your go to lens of choice you’re living in the past.Think that early noughties indie era where all you listened to was The Libertines or Oasis and hated anything stereotypical Y2K and you are never too far away from your leather jacket and fedora.

The small frames haven’t been a look loved by fashion’s finest A-listes in a long time.

But if you will always love a small shape, try a more modern rectangular style.

RECTANGULAR – STYLISH

Small but mighty the sleek appearance of rectangular sunglasses are the shape of the summer.

Loved by celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber they sit neatly under the eyebrows and end just a few millimetres below your bottom eyelashes.

If you’re a rectangular wearer you are in style.

They show you’re a follower of trends and care about your appearance with your finger on the fashion pulse.

CAT EYE – ATTENTION SEEKING

First hitting shelves in the 1920s, cat eye sunglasses have long been a symbol of femininity.

They’re bold feline shapes that point up at the outer corners and give the illusion of higher cheekbones with a curve or tear drop shape at the bottom.

They’ve been worn by ultra sexy and stylish women throughout history such as Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Gigi Hadid.

If cat eyes are your preferred style of sunglasses you’re a girly girl.

You use your shades to enhance your already feminine style and love their statement shape that gets you noticed.
