We can’t help but want to watch this film immediately after watching the action-packed trailer (Picture: Paramount)

The new Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One trailer is brimming with Tom Cruise’s epic stunts, one of which is already stuck in our minds as an iconic moment.

Coming to cinemas this July, this new film will be the first of two parts as 60-year-old Tom yet again takes up the role of Ethan Hunt as he has done six times previously.

The first of the franchise was released in 1996, and the eighth will be part two, set to hit the big screens in June next year.

Starring alongside the Top Gun actor in the film are Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, and Ving Rhames.

And this looks to be a pretty exciting one if the action-packed trailer is anything to go by.

In it, many serious-Tom-Cruise-doing-things-faces are made, while a few pretty dreamy sunsets act as a bit of calm before the guns come out and all hell breaks loose in a number of spectacular locations, from deserts to mountain tops.

Tom was either poised for action or very much mid-action throughout the trailer (Picture: Paramount)

The one scene sticking out as already-iconic so far is when stunt-pro Tom drives off a cliff on a very speedy motorbike which, of course, he quickly disposes off mid-air.

While dialogue is pretty thin, there are some hair-raising moments bringing the drama with a few lines uttering predictions like, ‘We are the sum of our choices, our lives are the sum of our choices, and we cannot escape the past.’

‘His fate is written, shall we write yours too?’ says another, before a defiant Ethan shouts: ‘If anything happens to them, there’s no place that I won’t go to kill you. That is written.’

Of course, it ended on a cliff hanger (Picture: Paramount)

The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby is also getting a look in on the action (Picture: Paramount)

There’s also a classic roof-of-train-fight scene which of course ends in a tiny tunnel (Picture: Paramount)

There’s also a very James Bond moment when Ethan fights on the top of a train before – you guessed it – a fast-approaching tunnel means they have to duck for their lives.

The trailer ends with the trademark Mission: Impossible tune and Tom dangling from some sickening height. Classic.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the synopsis of this most recent, er, impossible mission will see Ethan and his crew trying to track down a new weapon that ‘threatens all of humanity’.

‘With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins,’ the synopsis begins.

‘Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.’
