Seth MacFarlane has reportedly decided to step away from Family Guy until an agreement between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the studios is reached, as the ongoing writers’ strike rages on.

The 49-year-old animator behind the hit series has walked out on the series to showcase his support for the WGA walkout.

It’s also been claimed that show creator Seth – who also produces the hit US sitcom American Dad – will not return to work as long as the writers remain on strike.

A source shared: ‘There is quite a bit of runway to go before the wheels come off.

‘The animated satire has about three months of scripts, v/o, etc already completed. Then the studio will have to figure out what steps to take next.’

Deadline also claims that the Peter Griffin star has been spotted out on the picket lines.

On May 2, thousands of TV and film writers in the WGA staged a walkout after major studios failed to offer an adequate pay deal.

The strike is the largest since 2007, and has been supported by a string of famous faces.

Jennifer Coolidge shared her support for the WGA walkout in her acceptance speech at this year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards.

‘You know, almost all great comedy starts with great writers,’ the White Lotus icon declared in a pre-recorded message.

Popular chat shows including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon have been pulled off the schedule.

There has been plenty of support for the strike, with US chat show host Meyers using time in his episode of Late Night on Monday to label the salary increase ‘a reasonable demand.’

He said: ‘I love writing. I love writing for TV. I love writing this show. I love that we get to come in with an idea for what we want to do every day and we get to work on it all afternoon and then I have the pleasure of coming out here.

‘No one is entitled to a job in show business. But for those people who have a job, they are entitled to fair compensation. They are entitled to make a living. I think it’s a very reasonable demand that’s being set out by the guild. And I support those demands.’

Echoing Meyer’s sentiment, Fallon told Variety at the Met Gala: ‘I wouldn’t have a show if it wasn’t for my writers, and I support them all the way.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Seth MacFarlane’s reps for comment.

Family Guy is available to watch on ITVX and Disney Plus.
