Tom Hanks shared a fascinating insight into the impact artificial intelligence may have on the film industry in the years to come.

The iconic actor, 66, not only revealed that agencies are now working with legal firms to suss out the legal ramifications of using entertainers’ faces through AI technology, but also touched upon the fact he may well appear on screen after his death thanks to artificial intelligence.

‘What is a bona fide possibility right now, if I wanted to, [is] I could get together and pitch a series of seven movies that would star me in them in which I would be 32 years old from now until kingdom come,’ the Forrest Gump star said.

The Oscar-winner went on: ‘Anybody can now recreate themselves at any age they are by way of AI or deep fake technology.

‘I could be hit by a bus tomorrow and that’s it, but my performances can go on and on and on.’

Tom made the remarks on The Adam Buxton Podcast and after speaking about being de-aged by AI, also revealed the steps Hollywood is taking to protect actors as artificial intelligence sweeps the industry.

‘I can tell you that there [are] discussions going on in all of the guilds, all of the agencies, and all of the legal firms in order to come up with the legal ramifications of my face and my voice and everybody else’s being our intellectual property.’

Tom’s timely comments come after he spoke candidly about some of his dark days on film sets, confessing that there have been instances of bad behaviour.

The actor recently released his decade-spanning debut novel, The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece, which focuses on the release of a fictional multi-million-dollar superhero movie and introduces readers to the ‘colourful’ cast, including a ‘pompous film star on the rise’.

The character in the book has been described as disruptive, something that seems worlds away from Tom – who is regarded as one of the nicest people in Hollywood.

However, speaking to the BBC about his book earlier this month, he revealed that aspects of the character were similar to his own antics.

‘I have pulled every single one of those moments of behaviour myself on a set,’ the Toy Story star said. ‘Not everybody is at their best every single day on a motion picture set.

‘I’ve had tough days trying to be a professional when my life has been falling apart in more ways than one and the requirement for me that day is to be funny, charming and loving – and it’s the last way I feel.

‘What cannot occur on a motion picture is that someone cannot monkey around with the timing or the length of the shoot or the budget. That is a cardinal sin in the motion picture business.’
