Link’s loyal steed Epona is an absolute must-have in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, even though obtaining her can pose quite a challenge.

Similar to its predecessor, Breath Of The Wild, sequel Tears Of The Kingdom allows you to once again travel with Link’s cherished companion Epona.

Epona, the brown mare with a distinctive white mane, is impossible to overlook. Not only does she share a strong bond with Link, but she also possesses maximized stats, making her one of the best horses in the game.

There are essentially two methods to summon Epona in Tears Of The Kingdom, but neither is as simple as you might hope.

Which amiibo will get you Epona in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

To acquire Epona in the game, the first method involves scanning compatible Zelda amiibo. However, this method only proves effective if you possess either the Super Smash Bros. Link amiibo or the Twilight Princess Link one.

Bear in mind that only the standard Link amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. set is compatible for summoning Epona. Using the Young Link or Toon Link amiibo will only spawn various items and chests.

It’s also essential to complete the Great Sky Island tutorial and reach Hyrule before you can call Epona.

In the game, you have the freedom to summon Epona more than once, as these amiibo can be used once per day, allowing for the potential of having two Eponas simultaneously.

Can you get Epona without an amiibo in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Unfortunately, the second method for obtaining Epona isn’t much different and still revolves around owning an amiibo.

All you need to do is go to a stable and interact with the stable owner. If you have save data from a playthrough of Breath Of The Wild on your Nintendo Switch, you’ll be presented with the option to import all the horses, including Epona, that you had in the game.

From there, Epona will be waiting for you at New Serenne Stable, which is situated in North Hyrule Plain, between Lookout Landing and Hebra. Here’s a full list of all the horse stables in Tears Of The Kingdom to make sure you find it easily.

The downside of this method is that the only way you can get Epona in Breath Of The Wild is also by scanning certain amiibo. Or at least having done so in the past.
