There’s been a recent trend of social media influencers picking up boxing gloves, and competing in fights that garner a lot of attention.

One of the biggest examples is Jake Paul, whose fight against Love Island star Tommy Fury attracted a large viewership with some people who’d previously never been interested in boxing taking an interest.

The fight held in Saudi Arabia on February 26 sold over 300,000 pay per view packages, and Jake claimed to make $30 million for the fight.

Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams OBE is more than okay with influencers joining the boxing world because it’s increasing the popularity of the sport.

While speaking at the Prince’s Trust Awards, she told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think it’s good. It’s good for the sport.

‘It’s bringing in more fans. Go for it,’ she added.

However, when asked for her specific thoughts on Tommy V Jake, Nicola smiled and responded: ‘It was what it was. It was two novices fighting.’

It doesn’t sound like she was too enthralled by the match.

Nicola definitely has the right to pass some judgment as she finished her career with an undefeated record and held the WBO female flyweight title.

The 40-year-old has got someone special keeping her occupied in retirement – Nicola welcomed her first child Taylor Adams with partner Ella Baig in July.

With nearly a year of parenthood under her belt, Nicola shared her positive review on the journey so far.

‘It’s really good. Seeing Taylor’s lovely face in the morning, and the little new things that he’s doing. It’s great,’ she told us.

Nicola already has a favourite part of being a mum: ‘It’s definitely seeing Taylor’s face, and seeing him smiling and happy.

‘He’s starting to try to walk and talk. Every day I wake up and think, “Oh my god, what is he going to do today?”‘

Like many new parents, she is finding the ‘lack of sleep’ to be the most challenging aspect.
