Miranda Otto may have been part of The Lord of the Rings franchise but she’s put off tuning into prequel series The Rings of Power.

The Australian actress rose to fame in the early 2000s for her role as Éowyn in Peter Jackson’s film series, a character that was introduced in the second movie, The Two Towers.

Just over two decades after the release of The Fellowship of the Ring, the TV series based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s work was released on Amazon, quickly proving a huge hit with fans as well.

However, Miranda, 55, has revealed that despite her links to the story, she hasn’t watched the show just yet.

‘I haven’t watched Rings of Power but I will get around to it at some stage,’ she told Metro.co.uk.

‘It’s a funny thing for me because the experience for me was so special that it kind of sits contained for me in that moment.

‘I wish every success, but in some ways my, it would be funny for me to go back and try and watch it or watch others.’

However, Miranda still has links to Lord of the Rings, and is currently working on the animated film The War of the Rohirrim, due for release next year.

In it she reprises her role and narrates this movie.

It was an job she jumped at when first offered.

‘Phillippa (Boyens), one of the writers on the original, rang me and asked if I would be interested in coming back and narrating the animation for this film and I said yes because I thought it would be interesting to return to the character,’ she said.

‘There is not an enormous amount I have to do but it was a fun way to keep the character going in some way so many years later.’

Explaining that there is a bit of back and forth with this particular role as the animation process progresses, Miranda said she had done the initial recordings so far and was set to do more in the next six to 12 months.

While she didn’t have to undergo hours having her hair and make-up done this time to transform into the noblewoman, there was one detail of the character she had to carefully consider two decades on.

‘It’s been fun to go back and find the voice again and try to think of the character older and see if it is similar enough to my voice back then,’ she explained.

Before that though, Miranda will next be appearing in The Clearing.

Based on the book In the Clearing by J.P. Pomare, the eight-part psychological thriller was inspired by the dark story of a real-life Australian cult with a female leader, Adrienne, whom Miranda plays.

‘I think in the beginning we do set her up as “who is this woman and how and why does she have this power”, because it is quite unusual to have a woman heading up a cult, it’s often men,’ she explained.

While she at first thought the main motivations for her character would be to seize and maintain power, it turned out to be something totally different.

‘It ended up to me she was more trying to fulfill a part of her childhood and life that she never had, and so she was someone who is actually building this sort of group of people around her to make a family and community for herself that she never had,’ she said.
