Omni-Man – this doesn’t seem a fair match

A leak from Amazon has confirmed earlier rumours about Homelander and Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 1, as well as four other extra characters.

The new Mortal Kombat was only announced on Thursday and yet we already know just as much about it from unofficial sources as we do official, with details of the first wave of DLC characters leaking out last week.

Mortal Kombat is well known for adding pop culture cameos, often of violent anti-heroes or villains, and so it wasn’t too much of a surprise to hear that Peacemaker and Homelander were heading to the game.

A leak on the Italian Amazon site, now redacted, has confirmed both and also revealed that Omni-Man, from the Invincible comics and animated show, will be part of the line-up.

Both Homelander and Omni-Man are takes on the evil Superman trope and while Peacemaker is less indestructible, and more morally conflicted, there’s a clear theme going on here.

As well as three third party characters the Kombat Pack also contains three returning characters from the existing Mortal Kombat mythos: second-rate bad guy Quan Chi, red ninja Ermac, and Kenshi’s son Takeda Takahashi.

Warner has already confirmed that the first Kombat Pack will be available at launch and that one of its other additions are a Johnny Cage skin that looks like Jean-Claude Van Damme.

That’s interesting because Johnny Cage wasn’t in the trailer but Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, and Shang Tsung all were. That presumably means they’re all playable, although the latter only if you pre-order.

There’s also something called Kameo Fighters, which seem to be non-playable assist characters. No example of these has been given yet, but five will apparently be included in the first Kombat Pack.

It’s quite likely that they will include both original and third party characters, perhaps related to the Peacemaker, The Boys, and Invincible properties.

Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19 this year for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
