Former WWE superstar Sasha Banks has shared a photo from a hospital bed after suffering a nasty wrestling injury.

The Mandalorian actress, who is going by the stage name Mercedes Mone since leaving the company, has been taking over the wrestling world in Japan but unfortunately got hurt at NJPW Resurgence in the finals of a one night tournament.

New Japan Pro Wrestling was crowning the first ever NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion at the event on Sunday night.

Mercedes beat Stephanie Vaguer to meet Willow Nightingale – who triumphed over Mono Kohgo – in the main event, but things took a painful turn.

At one point, the 31-year-old star went to the top rope but lost her balance and fell to the floor, landing awkwardly but still finishing the match, which was won by Willow after two Doctor Bombs.

While her opponent was celebrating, Mercedes was carried backstage and appeared to be keeping her foot elevated.

PWInsider has reported that she may have suffered a broken ankle, and while the wrestler herself is yet to confirm specific details about her injury, she did address the incident on Twitter.

She apologised to fans and promised to return ‘better than ever’, but didn’t give a timeline on her recovery.

She wrote: ‘WRESTLING!!!! Phew 😮‍💨 not how I dreamed for tonight to go.
I’m so sorry and I love you guys so much. I’m gonna heal and be back better than ever. Moné 💙’

When it comes to wrestling. Mercedes is focused on Japan after she and Naomi (now going by her real name Trinity) walked out of an episode of WWE Raw amid reports of creative issues.

Meanwhile, Trinity has since signed with IMPACT Wrestling to start the next stage of her own career after spending a decade with WWE.

Making such a big change career change is no mean feat, but the 35-year-old star is excited and reinvigorated by the opportunities that lie ahead with IMPACT as she finds herself ‘wrestling for a different purpose now’.

‘When you’re young and you’re first coming in, it’s just about earning income, taking care of your family. That’s all it’s about! But at this point… it’s about all of that, but being fulfilled and being happy as well,’ she exclusively told Metro.co.uk.

‘Somewhere along the way, things change… I got to the point where I just wasn’t feeling at my best for multiple reasons. So that’s my priority now, and I feel like I’ll have that in this chapter and with IMPACT.’
