ECW legend Sabu made a surprise appearance on AEW Dynamite this week and fans have no clue what to think.

The hardcore wrestling pioneer – known by his nickname as the Homicidal, Suicide, Genocidal Death-Defying Maniac – spent a year working with WWE in 2006/07 as part of the ECW revival, and now he’s adding All Elite Wrestling to his resume.

The 58-year-old star will be in the corner of Adam Cole for the former WWE NXT wrestler’s Unsanctioned Match against Chris Jericho to help Roderick Strong even out the numbers game against the Jericho Appreciation Society.

When Cole revealed he had backup, fans would never have guessed who he’d picked after making a call to someone who knows Jericho, with the pair facing off on an untelevised ECW show back in 1996.

The crowd roared as his music hit and he made his way down to the ring, throwing a chair at his new rivals and standing by Cole and Strong’s side.

Fans online were baffled by the whole ordeal, although most people were happy to see him despite the randomness of the situation.

‘Haha oh my god holy s**t that was so random let’s freakin’ go,’ tweeted one viewer, while another laughed: ‘Didn’t have this on my pro wrestling bingo card 😂’

‘That came out of left, right and mid field,’ joked a third fan, with a fourth adding: ‘I love Sabu but why?’

Yet another person wrote: ‘AEW’s ability to deliver shocking moments is so amazing. When Adam Cole started rattling off the nicknames Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, I was like… no way and then Sabu actually showed up in MGM Grand. This is what makes pro wrestling just the best.’

Someone else described it as a ‘fever dream’, and it’s fair to say not everyone was quite so on board with the surprise/

‘AEW becoming a retirement home at this point,’ quipped one person, with another arguing: ‘AEW really just be doing anything cause why does Adam Cole have Sabu’s number.’

AEW Revolution airs Sunday, May 28 at 1am on Fite TV.
