Rebel Wilson has confirmed that she auditioned for a part in the next James Bond movie.

The Australian star, 43, also revealed the interesting way the audition came about but didn’t comment on whether she’d scored a role as a supporting cast member in the 007 franchise.

Speaking this week at Cannes Film Festival, the mum-of-one explained she initially got in touch with Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson to clear Bond-related jokes before she hosted the Baftas last year.

That chat led to an audition which it sounds like the Bridesmaid star had a blast taking part in.

‘What was really cool was getting to audition for Bond,’ she told Variety from France while discussing the opportunity.

Sadly, Rebel didn’t tell the outlet which supporting character she tried out for during last year’s audition.

Little is known about the next James Bond movie, which is currently in the script stage.

Barbara and Michael have yet to announce who will be taking over the lead role from Daniel Craig, who departed the franchise after 2021’s No Time to Die, but the current favourite for the superspy is Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Rebel also spoke about her directorial debut – a film adaption of the Australian stage musical The Deb.

‘Everyone kept saying, “You should direct!’” she explained.

‘I just started getting offered movies to direct from studios, so then I was like, “Oh my God, if I have to take a year out of my life and not be an actress and be a director, it has to be something that I am massively passionate about,”’ Rebel also shared.

The Deb, which Rebel will also appear in, starts shooting in Australia in September.

Rebel’s glitzy Cannes trip comes after she spoke about a run-in she once had with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, admitting that she found the Duke of Sussex to be more ‘naturally warm’ than his wife.

In March, Rebel appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live where she spoke about the encounter.

She began by talking about introducing her mum to Harry, saying: ‘We went up to Santa Barbara, met Harry, he could not have been nicer’.

‘Had you met them before?’ Andy questioned.

Rebel replied: ‘No we just had a mutual friend in common, a polo player.’

‘But then, Meghan was not as cool,’ the Pitch Perfect star continued.

‘Meghan wasn’t as naturally warm, but then, maybe, my mum being Australian asked her all of these slightly rude questions, like “Where are your kids?” and things like that.

‘And I was like, “Mum don’t ask her that!”‘

‘Maybe that’s why she was a little stand-offish,’ Andy suggested.

Rebel agreed: ‘Maybe that’s why she was like, “Who are these annoying convicts from Australia?”‘

She added that Harry, who she has previously supported at a polo match, was ‘lovely’.
