Jane Fonda has called for all white men to be ‘arrested and jailed’ after blaming them for the climate crisis – claiming there ‘would be no climate crisis if there was no racism.’

The 85-year-old actress has been vocal about her passion for the cause in recent years, but ramped up her campaign at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend.

Answering a question from a fan at the annual festival – during her appearance which saw her throw an award at a director – Jane said, ‘This is serious. We’ve got about seven, eight years to cut ourselves in half of what we use of fossil fuels, and unfortunately, the people that have the least responsibility for it are hit the hardest.

‘Global South, people on islands, poor people of color. It’s good for us all to realize, there would be no climate crisis if there was no racism. There would be no climate crisis if there was no patriarchy.’

She added, ‘A mindset that sees things in a hierarchical way. White men are the things that matter and then everything else [is] at the bottom.’

The Barbarella star discussed her thoughts on the link between climate change and racism in an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show back in January.

Speaking to the American Idol winner, Jane said, ‘Well, you know, you can take anything — sexism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, whatever, the war.

‘And if you really get into it, and study it and learn about it and the history of it, everything’s connected. There’d be no climate crisis if it wasn’t for racism.’

When questioned by her 80 For Brady co-star Rita Moreno, Jane clarified her thoughts on how billionaires are sending pollution to communities that have a lesser voice.

‘Put it there. They can’t fight back. And that’s why a big part of the climate movement now has to do with climate justice,’ she said.

Jane’s most recent comments have seemingly divided fans, with many taking to social media to discuss her views.

One wrote, ‘I love that Jane Fonda is still hitting us with truth to this day. Keep it up queen.’

A second added, ‘Jane Fonda is absolutely right on this. Rich old white men in the United States are fighting tooth and nail to profit off of fossil fuel. The only Bats**t Crazy here is your reckless disregard for the truth.’

However, another wrote, ‘I used to like her as an actress but this about ones it for me!’

A final social media user penned, ‘She will do anything for attention. Ignore her. That will hurt most of all.’
