Good Morning Britain viewers were left completely stunned when they saw a guest appear completely naked on live television, and it wasn’t even 8 o’clock in the morning.

After the City of London Corporation received complaints over naked sunbathing, the topic has sparked controversy, with sunbather Helen Berrimen coming on the ITV daytime programme to defend her rights.

While her body was blurred out on our screens, it was clear Helen sat in the studio completely naked.

Although she insisted she does ‘wear clothes sometimes’ Helen went on to defend naked sunbathing, which is legal, as long as you don’t cause ‘alarm or distress’ to others.

Helen began: ‘My body is just my body, there’s nothing sensational about it, there’s no need to sexualise it.’

She continued: ‘I accept it for what it is.

‘With all the things that are going on in the world at the moment, are we really bothered about nude sunbathing?’

And while Good Morning Britain hosts Ed Balls and Charlotte Hawkins didn’t seem that bothered at all, presenter Nick Ede voiced the opinions of those who may be ‘offended’ or ‘triggered’.

‘The only bush I want to see while I’m having a sandwich [in the park] is a green one with birds in it, that’s the only thing I want to see,’ he said, branding naked sunbathing ‘selfish’.

‘You’re not taking into consideration the other people in that environment who might be triggered or might feel offended,’ he added.

Viewers were just as stunned, with one writing: ‘Why does she have to be naked. If you go on #GMB as a footballer do you have to wear a football strip whilst kicking a ball.’

Another blasted: ‘Utterly ridiculous and pointless having her naked in the studio. ITV really need to get a grip!!’

‘Naked attraction on GMB,’ someone else laughed.

Others were more defensive over Helen and those wanting to sunbathe naked, with one writing: ‘Some people just want to be outraged at anything. If people want to sunbath naked in their own garden what the heck has it got to do with you.’

Another said: ‘They should have areas where people can sunbathe naked, that way both sides of the coin are made comfortable and feel safe.’

‘There are many triggers, why is nudity one of them? I can be triggered by the colour of your top, but where do we draw the line?’ Helen fought back.

‘If I can help people be comfortable in the skin they’re in, then I consider that a win,’ she added.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
