So, you may be wondering who Royal Blood are, now that the rock band are at the centre of a music world fury.

Why, you ask? Well, it turns out they themselves think they’re unknown after approximately ‘nine people’ clapped them on stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

The duo, made up of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher, took to the stage in Dundee on Sunday for the festival which was headlined by The 1975 and Lewis Capaldi.

But the Figure It Out hitmakers were disappointed by the crowd’s reception explaining they made ‘rock music’ because ‘no one actually knows who we are.’

After claiming just a handful of the revellers ‘liked rock music’, Mike continued: ‘We’re happy to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic. Well done Ben.’

Fans have been roasting Royal Blood ever since, with one Twitter user remarking: ‘Royal Blood are just jealous and anxious having to follow Niall Horan and his beautiful new country twang.’

For those nine people with an understanding level of rock music, another commentator jokingly explained that Royal Blood are ‘the Tesco value version of Queens of the Stone Age.’

A third, in a savage jibe, stated: ‘Someone once described Royal Blood to me as music for accountants who say they like a “bit of rock” at the HSBC Christmas party. I’ve never been able to see them in the same light ever since.’

Many others weighed in and slammed Royal Blood for their ‘entitlement’ and reluctance to win over the crowd.

‘No matter what level you get to, you’re never better than the audience,’ one summed it up.

One fan, however, totally did relate to Royal Blood’s tantrum, writing: ‘Eight-year-old me storming out of the living room because my family were talking through my performance of spice girls’ wannabe #royalblood.’

So who exactly are the ‘unknown’ band Royal Blood who play at Radio 1 events and ‘make rock music?’

Man, some gigs are tough and you have to win over the crowd, but this is exactly how to NOT react.

Very disappointed with Royal Blood here.

Royal Blood released their official debut single in 2013 after signing to a major record label and the same management firm as the Arctic Monkeys.

Several months later they were nominated for the BBC Sound of 2014 and performed at major festivals including SXSW in Austin, Glastonbury and Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.

Their debut album, Royal Blood, became the fastest-selling British rock debut album in three years in the UK and they scored the Brit Award for Best British Group in 2015.

How Did We Get So Dark?, the band’s second album, debuted at the number one spot in the UK charts and they followed its release with huge tours in the US and Europe.

Their follow-up, Typhoons, also soared the number one, meaning all three of the band’s albums have hit the top spot.
