I’m a fashion expert and this is what your Love Island-style swimwear says about you & why cut-outs are a mistake

IT’S that time of year again.

Get ready for water bottles, love triangles, texts, tiffs, and trend setting swimwear.

Yes, Love Island is back.

With Maya Jama back for her second series as host following the winter version of the show, this series is already shaping up to be one of the best yet.

Each season the show comes out with new talent and catch phrases but the ladies’ pool-side looks stay the same.

You can count on smatterings of sequins, plunging necklines and a lot of under-boob.

But what does your Love Island go-to look say about you?

Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend reveals all.

SEQUIN – OLD FASHIONED

ITVNew Love Island contestant Jess Harding.[/caption]

This year’s blonde bombshell is Jess Harding, a businesswoman from London who favours the classic sequin bikini.

But whilst Jess’ shimmering two-piece is bound to catch glances from the show’s lads, sequined swimwear is old-fashioned.

Plus, their itchy plastic will only make your skin feel hotter and irritated when basking in the sun.

EMBELLISHED – DATED

ITVMegan Barton-Hanson made her debut in 2018 wearing an embellished bikini.[/caption]

Getting hot and heavy is what Love Island is all about, however when it comes to your swimmers its best to avoid styles that will make you feel hotter and weigh you down.

Costumes or bikinis with large gemstones or beaded embellishment make bracing the heat that much harder.

And the trend has had its day, it’s now a bit dated and naff.

Megan Barton-Hason’s debut on the show was back in 2018, trends have moved on since then.

CUT OUT – ATTENTION SEEKER

Rex FeaturesMaura Higgins caught everyone’s eye in this blue cut-out swimsuit in 2019.[/caption]

Cut-outs have become the uniform for Love Island ladies over the years and they’ve made their way into our wardrobes too.

However the revealing look comes with a “look-at-me” reputation that shows you’re after some attention.

Cut-out swimwear should also be worn with caution.

Think about those nightmare tan lines should you want to wear just a bikini the next day, like Maura Higgins blue number from 2019.

ANIMAL PRINT – FEISTY

ITVMolly-Mae Hague made a bold move in an animal print bikini in 2019.[/caption]

Molly-Mae Hague burst onto screens in 2019 wearing an animal print bikini.

She made a beeline for her man Tommy Fury, who she is still dating and has a child, Bambi, together with him.

If you’re an animal print lover it shows your feisty and you go after what you want, like Molly-Mae did on her series.

ZIPS – ADVENTUROUS

If you favour swimwear with zip detailing, this shows everyone else on the beach that you are adventurous.

You don’t let your swimwear hold you back, you’re the first one on the jet ski and make sure you avoid any wardrobe malfunctions with the safety of a zip.

Much like surfer Lucie Donlan from 2019.
