Holly Willoughby will be returning to This Morning on Monday, for her first show since longtime co-host Phillip Schofield resigned from the show, and she’ll be joined by Josie Gibson.

The host has been on a break from the show for the past two weeks and will be making a much-anticipated return.

Her last appearance on the show was May 28. Two days later, Schofield announced his exit from the daytime programme after more than 20 years, following rumours that he and Willoughby were ‘barely speaking’ behind the scenes and that their relationship had cooled.

Days later, he sensationally resigned from all his ITV projects including hosting the British Soap Awards after revealing that he had an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a young male showrunner on This Morning while still with his wife Stephanie Lowe.

Since the statement, Holly has maintained a low profile and has been spending time with her family in Portugal.

She did, however, write a short statement on Instagram: ‘It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.

‘It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly.’

Schofield corroborated her story. He told The Sun: ‘Holly did not know (about the romance). And she was one of the first texts that I sent, to say, ‘I am so, so sorry that I lied to you.’

He added: ‘I’ve lost my best friend. I let her down (Holly).’

Alison Hammond informed viewers at the end of Friday’s show that Holly, 42, will be joined by Josie, 38. The pair have previously fronted the show together.

During her absence, Dermot O’Leary and Alison, who usually host the Friday of the show, have mainly taken the reins with Josie serving as a roving reporter for the show.

On today’s show, the hosts addressed Schofield’s tell-all interview with BBC.
