Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds has proven himself to be quite the football fan.

The footie chairman attended the FA Cup final on Saturday (June 3) along with Paul Mullin, as the star Wrexham striker picked up the top scorer award in this season’s competition.

Reynolds sat with the 28-year-old striker in the stands at Wembley as they watched Manchester City defeat Manchester United 2-1 in the showpiece before Mullin was presented with a golden trophy.

Mullin scored nine goals in this year’s competition, four more than Manchester City’s Riyadh Mahrez – who was unable to add to his tally in City’s victory and thus confirmed the Wrexham striker’s award.

Reynolds, who bought Welsh football club Wrexham AFC in November 2020 with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, shared a series of snaps of himself in the stands and standing alongside Mullin with his trophy.

The 46-year-old Deadpool star wrote: ‘Thank you (Manchester United) for the hospitality at the #FACupFinal.

‘See you in San Diego July 26th.’

Wrexham will face United in a friendly in July in California.

Mullin recorded his nine-goal tally as the club reached the fourth round of this season’s tournament before being knocked out by Sheffield United in a replay.

Elsewhere, Reynolds and Wrexham co-owner McElhenney, 46, have continued to throw everything into making the club a success.

Earlier this year, Wrexham came from behind to beat Boreham Wood 3-1 at The Racecourse Ground on Saturday and clinch the National League title with one game remaining.

It was their 34th win after an incredible season, seeing them move to 110 points – a National League record.

Speaking after the club’s promotion, Reynolds was lost for words.

‘I am not sure I can process what happened tonight,’ he said. ‘I am still little speechless.

‘[People ask] “Why Wrexham?” This is why Wrexham. This happening, right now, is why.’

Asked what it means to the locals for Wrexham to return to the Football League, McElhenney added: ‘Well, I think you can hear what it means to the town.

‘It’s a time of celebration and be welcomed into their community and be welcomed to this, it is the honour of my life.’

Reynolds and McElhenney documented their journey with the club in their Welcome to Wrexham documentary, and fans will be pleased to hear a second season is coming.
