Social media star Kinley (@mc.kkinley) put this theory to the test by wearing a two-piece bikini around her family in a video she posted on TikTok.
“Pulling up to the family vacation in my new shein bikini,” she captioned the clip.
In the video, she sports a sleek black bikini and lip-syncs to Britney Spears’ Circus, which is playing in the background.
Although the bikini offers more coverage than many, Kinley said her dad had already warned her about what was and was not acceptable swimwear for a family event.
“My dad just told me only conservative one-pieces allowed,’” she wrote below the video. “Oops.”
She dances along to the music throughout the clip, but pauses to concentrate on one verse in particular.
“All eyes on me, in the center of the ring, just like a circus,” she mouthed.
Kinley has almost 40,000 fans on TikTok who watch her videos about fashion, lifestyle, and pop culture.
Other influencers are pushing the envelope by baring more skin around the family too.
A young influencer named Zoey Goldstein shared her experience of wearing a “cheeky bikini” to a family resort – “Enjoy the free show,” she captioned the video.
Another woman named Izzabel had to apologize to her family members after wearing a “tiny bikini” to the pool.
Influencer Maddie Burch posted a video complaining about only having small bikinis and why it made going to the beach with her parents difficult.
“The struggle in finding a family-friendly bikini,” she wrote in the caption as she held up bikinis with very little coverage in the video.
“It’s hard to even find them in stores that cover a decent amount!” one person replied.
