I’m a fashion pro and people who wear crop tops and caps in their airport outfit look tacky – what to avoid to look good

CATCHING a flight is serious business – you have to remember your passport, make sure your luggage doesn’t go over weight restrictions and choose travel attire.

And with fast fashion brands like PrettyLittleThing, Boohoo and Fashion Nova having entire sections dedicated to “airport outfits”, the pressure to fly in style couldn’t be bigger.

However, according to one elegance expert, looking good at the boarding gate isn’t as easy as you might think.

Etiquette coach Amira Bessette shunned a number of travel style staples as trashy and inelegant.

She put together a list of “things elegant women do not wear at the airport”.

Among these was pyjama sets, chunky trainers, leggings and tracksuit bottoms.

Another item was crop tops, with Bessette believing that “modest fashion” is the hallmark of elegance.

For the same reason, she also bashed women who wear ripped jeans at the airport.

And while you might need a cap to keep the sun out of your eyes on holiday, the expert warned that wearing one at the airport isn’t what elegant women do.

Bessette also slated Louis Vuitton travel bags and the French fashion house’s popular Neverfull bag.

Bessette shared her strong thoughts in a TikTok video for her 380k followers.

“Louis Vuitton bags turned into a sign of being tacky,” one viewer agreed. “I only know them from people who bought them at counterfeit markets.”

However, others snapped back at her opinions.

Critics argued that being comfortable at the airport is the most important thing – no matter if it means your get-up isn’t elegant.

“It’s the airport, who cares?” one asked.

“Dumb,” a second penned. “Wear what you are comfortable wearing.”

“Just wear whatever you want and don’t listen to her,” a third savagely said. “She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

Bessette has created similar videos advising things “elegant women don’t do at the golf club” and what fast fashion brands to avoid if you “want to be elegant”.
