Alison Hammond has teared up on This Morning while talking to a viewer about body confidence.

On Friday’s episode of the ITV breakfast programme, body confidence coach Michelle Elman appeared to speak to callers who wanted to speak about their body image concerns.

One of the calls came in from Elaine from London, who shared how she was living with lymphodemia.

‘I’ve had it for a long time but the past few years it has got really bad and my thighs and legs look like tree trunks and they’ve got scars,’ she said.

Explaining how she hated to now go outside with her legs uncovered, Elaine said she would ‘live in black trousers’ if she could.

Concerned that people were staring at her body and judging her for being overweight, she then spoke to Michelle, Alison and co-host Dermot O’Leary.

After getting some advice from Michelle about how she could push back against body shaming, Elaine then spoke about how she felt judged by people staring at her in public.

‘Let them stare and you enjoy your life,’ Alison then jumped in.

‘Your body is not an ornament for people to stare at.

‘You just do you babes.’

After sharing she hadn’t been to a beach in three years, Alison suggested they head to the seaside together.

She then added: ‘Elaine I know exactly how you are feeling.’

‘You can do this and you can be strong.’

She then said that she ‘had insecurities too’.

‘I feel like how you feel sometimes as well. It’s not always perfect what you see on the TV,’ she said.

‘I don’t like taking my jackets off but in life you have to enjoy it because before you know it, you are not here.

‘You really have to enjoy your life and your legs are beautiful. They are just different, that is all it is.’

She continued: ‘Sometimes I don’t like going to the gym because people are staring at me but they will stare and then worry about what is happening with them. Live your life and live it to the fullest.’

This isn’t the first time Alison has been applauded for throwing her support behind one of her viewers.

Back in 2021 she offered some sweet advice and reassurance to a woman called Sam who said she sometimes struggled to single out things she loved about herself.

Heartbroken by the call, Alison urged Sam to see herself through her children’s eyes.

‘Sam, you’re a one-off, babes. There’s no one like you. No one in the world is like you Sam, you’re literally a one-off babes,’ she said.

She added that Sam should ‘start loving’ herself and to ‘take up a bit extra room in the world’.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
