London headliner Adam Lambert insists this year’s Pride has ‘more important meaning’ as LGBTQ+ community fights ‘ignorance and hatred’-Emily Bashforth and Lucy Norris-Entertainment – Metro

Adam Lambert has spoken about what Pride means to him and how it feels ‘more important’ now than ever.
The US star, 41, has become a real LGBTQ+ icon throughout his career and used his platform to campaign for social justice after being outed back in the day while competing in American Idol.
Adam has continued to speak about his own experiences in the music industry, whether it’s being threatened with a lawsuit over his 2009 same-sex kiss at the AMAs, or defending fellow stars over queerbaiting allegations.
This year, the For Your Entertainment hitmaker headlines London Pride, and his new single – You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) – has been made the official Pride song.
Chatting exclusively to Metro.co.uk at the Capital Summertime Ball with Barclaycard this weekend, Adam explained why he wants to celebrate Pride in London.
‘I’ve been doing a lot of work in London so I feel almost like an adopted stepchild here. It feels great,’ he said proudly.

‘So, the offer came in to do London Pride and I thought, “Of course! I would love to do that”, and it just so happened I had a song come out with Sigala and they liked it so much they made it the official song of Pride in London on the album as well, which is really flattering and a big honour.’
The Trespassing vocalist went on to discuss how Pride differs this year.
‘I think there’s a lot of things going on in the world that are terrifying to the people in the community,’ he said frankly.
‘There’s a lot of push back, there’s a lot of political and social movements that are going on that are anti-LGBTQ+, so I think Pride takes on a deeper, more important meaning this.’

He added that Pride in 2023 helps to ‘really drive home’ the fact that the community is ‘stronger together’.
‘We will overcome all of this ignorance and hatred.’
Elsewhere in his career, Adam has been performing with the legendary rock band Queen for 10 years.
He originally sang alongside the We Will Rock You icons in 2009 on American Idol, before he and original rockers Brian May and Roger Taylor formed Queen + Adam Lambert in 2011.
Teasing what the future holds for the group, Adam recently told us whether he’d be touring with Queen anytime soon.
He said: ‘Not that I’m necessarily aware of, but I know that it’s not out of the question. I mean, we just kind of keep going, don’t we?’
