Claire Danes has opened up on the ‘brutal’ moments she had while filming Full Circle after unwittingly coming face-to-face with rats.

The 44-year-old – who is currently expecting her third child with Hugh Dancy – led a star-studded cast for the upcoming HBO Max drama, alongside Zazie Beetz, Timothy Olyphant and Dennis Quaid.

The drama, from Steven Soderbergh, follows an investigation into a botched kidnapping which ‘uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York.’

The mom-to-be was truly glowing as she hit the red carpet for the premiere, held at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday evening, but admitted that she found the shoot tough at times – thanks to all the rats roaming around.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk on her way into the venue, she recalled having the typical ‘New York experience’ while the cameras were rolling, explaining: ‘Well, I grew up in New York, blocks away from where I live now.

‘Our campers were parked literally across the street from my home for weeks at a time. So that was very convenient, in terms of the commute!

‘We did have to film in Washington Square Park at night, and I am deeply phobic of rats.

‘I won’t even walk like around the perimeter of the park after 5pm, and so to have to be in the center of it at 3am, it was really like exposure therapy or something. It was very challenging.’

When suggesting that it sounded more like a trial from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, she laughed: ‘Yes, exactly. That was brutal.’

Claire wasn’t the only member of the cast who struggled with the vermin, as co-star Zazie told us: ‘We shot a lot in Washington Square Park and it truly is the city of the rats, and we’re just visiting it.

‘We would shoot overnights all the time and the rats were turning up. I would say that was pretty New York.

‘We’re in their house, so they’re like, “What are you doing here?”’

Aside from the pesky vermin, the pair also spoke of sharing the screen together in Full Circle, which hits screens in the US on July 13, and how they were able to take on such varied roles.

‘I always just approach it initially from the character, where the character is coming from, what she wants and what her ultimate transformation is,’ Zazie continued.

‘I think my character feels very insecure and lost, and uses a front in order to pretend like she’s not. She’s very intelligent but can become aggressive because she’s very vulnerable.

‘That’s how I see this type of character versus approaching it like a detective, or like a crime thing. I just come at it from the inside and build out.’

‘Nobody works like Steven Soderbergh,’ Claire added. ‘He has a completely singular approach. It was great to be in such a new, creative environment and be stretched in that way.’

Full Circle premieres on HBO Max in the US on July 13.
