Treat Williams, known for his roles in Everwood and Hair, has died after being involved in a motorcycle accident aged 71.

The actor’s death was confirmed by his ‘devastated’ agent Barry McPherson on Monday night to People Magazine.

He told the publication: ‘He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off.

‘I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.’

McPherson continued: ‘He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s.

‘He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.’

Williams made his film debut in 1975 thriller Deadly Hero before his break-out role in musical Hair, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.

He went on to star in Steven Spielberg’s 1941 and Once Upon A Time In America, which also featured Robert De Niro.

In 1988, Williams played the lead role in buddy cop action zombie film Dead Heat before going on to star in Thing to Do in Denver When You’re Dead with Steve Buscemi and Christopher Walken.

Williams also starred in Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, Second Act and Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.

On the small screen, he had the lead role in TV series Everwood about a New York City neurosurgeon who moves his family to Colorado.

Actors including Vanessa Hudgens, who played his on-screen daughter in the 2018 film Second Act, have paid tribute to Williams.

The High School Musical actress wrote on Instagram: ‘He was a great movie dad and an even better human being. Treat Williams was a fantastic actor, a joy to be around, and the kindest soul. He will be missed.’

Sex And The City actress Kim Cattrall starred alongside Williams in 1999 TV movie 36 Hours to Die and shared: ‘I’m in shock! RIP Dear Treat. My condolences to Pam, Gilles, Ellie and the family. A wonderful actor and friend.’

Sharon Stone shared the headline news and wrote: ‘Sad news rest in peace brother.’
