Jacob Tremblay revealed that he was well and truly ‘pushed out of his comfort zone’ during his intense stint in Cold Copy.
The 16-year-old shot to fame at the age of eight, thanks to his role as Jack in 2015 flick Room, alongside Brie Larson.
Since then, he has lit up the screen in Before I Wake, My Father’s Dragon, Pete The Cat and most recently as Flounder in the live-action adaptation of the Little Mermaid.
It’s safe to say that his Cold Copy character, ‘cocky teen’ Igor Nowak is a world away from any of those characters, something that Jacob relished.
‘That’s exactly what drew me to this film, it is very different,’ he told Metro.co.uk on the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere on Sunday. ‘I had never played a character like this before, so it was really cool.
‘Typically, when you’re doing a character, you always try and find something that you have in common. And there’s really nothing I had in common with this character.

‘I think that’s a good thing for this one, because it really put me out of my comfort zone. I was really doing something that I hadn’t done before, I had to really learn this character.’
Jacob had another reason to enjoy his time on set as the project was actually shot in his home of Vancouver, with parts of filming actually open to the public.
‘It was a really cool set. It was filmed in Vancouver, which is the city where I’m from,’ he continued. ‘The first day on set, it was us on the street. They’d never closed anything down at all so people on the street were real people, just going where they needed to go.
‘I had never done anything like that before, it was really such a unique experience. It really forced me out of my comfort zone.’

In Cold Copy, Jacob has been joined by a star-studded cast, including the iconic Tracee Ellis Ross and Bel Powley.
The movie follows journalism student Mia (Bel) as she tries to win over powerful interviewer Diane (Tracee) and make her mark on the industry – which leads to her ‘twisting the tragic story of her innocent subject, cocky teen Igor to make it pop’.
‘The film is a dance between two women, one who has constructed the perfect mask of cold, calculated success, and one who believes the only way to succeed is to mimic it,’ the official synopsis reads.
‘Ultimately, it explores the irreparable damage done by our growing desire to ‘construct’ ourselves and the world around us, a world where narrative now supersedes truth.’

Jacob most recently made headlines around the world thanks to his role in the Little Mermaid, playing Flounder opposite Halle Bailey’s Ariel.
Unsurprisingly, the remake has been met with huge success and raked in more than $400million at the global box office at the time of writing.
Celebrating the incredible reaction from fans, the actor added: ‘It was really cool. The first premiere was in LA, it was a really big theatre and people just cheering at the end of every song and laughing at the moments.
‘It was really cool, and really nice to kind of experience that with everyone. It was really fun.’
