The Big Blow Out, hosted by AJ Odudu, will not be returning for a second series on Channel 4.

The competition programme is the latest to be axed on the network and follows the cancellation of the popular panel show The Last Leg and the reality series Four Weddings.

A spokesperson confirmed its canning in a statement, that read: ‘The Big Blow Out gave us many spectacular hair creations and we grew to love our passionate prodigies, but like all broadcasters we often have to make the difficult decision to stop making some programmes in order to make new ones.’

The Big Blow Out launched last year and followed 11 passionate stylists as they were put through their paces each week in a series of hair-related tasks.

For the first challenge, contestants needed to impress real clients with specific styling demands against the clock.

Their second task – titled the Masterpiece – allowed them to show off their creative abilities.

Cornish hairdresser Vicki-Anne Hoskin was crowned the first and only winner of the series.

On Sunday, Channel 4 shot down reports that Naked Attraction had been axed and instead confirmed 10 episodes are set to air next year.

At the time, a spokesperson for the network told Metro.co.uk: ‘Naked Attraction has not been decommissioned and a new series will return to Channel 4 next year.

‘Channel 4 is in robust health, however, like all commercial broadcasters we’re taking some precautionary measures, such as rephrasing some content and production, in response to a downturn in the ad market.

‘The vast majority of our shows have not been affected.’

On Tuesday, it was announced Channel 4 had made the ‘difficult’ decision to cull Rescue: Extreme Medics after two seasons.

‘We are immensely proud of both series of Rescue: Extreme Medics, but like all broadcasters, we often have to make the difficult decision to stop making some programmes in order to make new ones,’ a spokesperson told Deadline.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
