Prosecutors have claimed that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the weapons expert on Alec Baldwin’s film Rust, was ‘likely hungover’ on set the day that Baldwin shot dead cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Hutchins died when a gun went off on the set of Western Rust in October 2021.

Charges of involuntary manslaughter were then brought against Baldwin, 65, but it was announced in April that the case against him wouldn’t be proceeding.

However, on June 9 prosecutors responded to a motion filed in May by Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyers that hoped to dismiss her involuntary manslaughter charge.

Responding to the motion, prosecutors claimed Gutierrez-Reed has a history of ‘reckless conduct,’ according to Sky News.

Gutierrez-Reed is accused of ‘smoking and drinking’ in the evenings when filming was taking place and prosecutors say she was ‘likely to have been hungover’ when she loaded a live bullet into the gun Baldwin used on the Rust set.

The prosecution also claimed it was in the public interest for Gutierrez-Reed to ‘be held accountable’.

Gutierrez-Reed’s legal team insist prosecutors have mishandled the case with her lawyer Jason Bowles saying: ‘The case is so weak that they now have chosen to resort to character assassination claims about Hannah.

‘The prosecution has abandoned the idea of doing justice and getting to the actual truth apparently.’

Gutierrez-Reed’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for August.

Earlier this month, Baldwin reached a settlement with the family of Hutchins, although the details were not made public.

As reported by Fox News, a judge approved a wrongful death lawsuit related to Hutchins’ fatal shooting.

In October, Hutchins’ widower announced the parties settled the suit pending court approval.

The suit was filed in February 2022 on behalf of Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros.

They filed against Baldwin and others whom they said are ‘responsible for the safety on the set.’

It alleged that ‘reckless behaviour and cost-cutting’ led to the death of Hutchins.

Baldwin has always maintained that the did not know the gun he was holding contained a live round.
