I’m a mum – I’m sick of frumpy clothes for breastfeeding, they need to be more trendy

A MUM is on a mission to get high street retailers to make stylish clothes for breastfeeding mothers.

Sarah MacRory, 36, wants more mums to follow her footsteps and go down the natural route with their babies.

But she fears they are put off because all that’s on offer from the biggest shops are “ugly” outfits.

Sarah, from Aberdeen, said: “I buy my clothes from places like Boohoo. But there’s nothing that’s breastfeeding friendly. And nothing for younger women.

“Most of it is just really frumpy, it’s ugly and it’s not flattering.  I think it supports the idea that you shouldn’t be breastfeeding.”

Sarah has her own online community where she’s known as the Half Assed Hippie Mamma.

She passes on advice and support to mums on childcare and breastfeeding because she wants more to do it.

Sarah was stunned when she discovered only 0.05 percent of mums breastfeed after their kid reaches the age of one.

The NHS worker still has daughter Everleigh-Reign is on the boob at the age of three, alongside brother Theo-Baylin, one.

She is determined to make breastfeeding less taboo and much more normal in the UK.

And she wants high street fashion chains to do their bit by stocking fashionable breastfeeding outfits.

She said: “I want to wear nice clothes. No one seems to cater for breastfeeding mums. But I am sure someone will just tell me to stop breastfeeding.”

Sarah reckons part of the problem could be that people’s images of breastfeeding mothers are out of whack with the reality.

She wants to see outfits that make them look and feel good about themselves.

Sarah said: “Someone said to me that mums who are breastfeeding shouldn’t wear make-up.

“Everyone thinks we have hairy armpits and greasy hair. It’s a completely absurd view.

“”I like to put on make-up. I like a spray tan and to straighten and curl my hair. I like to look a way that makes me feel good about myself. Why shouldn’t I?”

Sarah told how sick trolls dubbed her a paedophile for still breastfeeding Everleigh-Reign.

She was reduced to tears after she was bombarded with messages calling for her kids to be taken into care.

But she revealed that professionals, including midwives and health visitors, have been nothing but approving and supportive.
