Katie Price’s mother has bravely opened up about fearing for her daughter’s life and becoming close to getting her sectioned.

Amy, 70, reflected on how Katie, 45, hit ‘rock bottom’ after her drink-drive arrest in September 2021.

The crash saw Katie crash her BMW on the B2135 near Partridge Green in West Sussex while under the influence of drink and drugs, for which she pleaded guilty in court.

Amy has now said she believes the crash was a suicide attempt from her daughter, who had hit ‘rock bottom’.

Her new interview comes as she gears up to release her own memoir, titled The Last Word, with Katie’ supporting her mum throughout the process.

‘It was the sort of moment no parent ever imagines having to deal with, shocking – so, so hard,’ Amy – who is terminally ill with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable lung condition – began.

She continued to The Sun: ‘I’d feared it would reach that point one day.

‘After all the years of failed relationships, betrayals by friends, duplicitous managers, and the painful loneliness she had experienced all her life.

‘It had all come to a head.’

Amy then admitted: ‘We seriously thought about sectioning Kate under the Mental Health Act, but I just couldn’t do that to my own daughter.’

She went on to recall the moment Katie called her to tell her about the car crash.

‘Kate began by apologising and then said, “I don’t want to be here. How am I still alive, Mum? I just don’t want to be here”,’ Amy heartbreakingly shared.

‘Thankfully, a decent man had stopped his car to help her and I could hear him in the background telling her, “You’ve got five kids. You’ve got everything to live for”.’

However, Amy ‘knew’ that Katie ‘thought otherwise’, having witnessed her suffering from depression for a long time.

‘Me, her stepdad Paul, brother Dan and sister Sophie had a conversation about attempting to have her sectioned to get her the help she so desperately needed, but I just couldn’t go through with it,’ she added to the outlet.

Instead, Katie’s stepdad picked the reality star up from the police station and took her to check in at The Priory, where she completed a rehab stay.

Sadly, the TV star attempted to take her own life for a second time during her stay, her mum said, which left Amy at her ‘lowest ebb’.

Katie spent one month in the rehab centre and later received a 16-month jail sentence, suspended for a year, for drink-driving while disqualified.

She is now having therapy regularly, with Amy describing her as ‘someone who wants to be loved and happy’.
