Piers Morgan won the interview of the year gong at Tuesday’s TRIC awards and made sure to boast about the achievement.

The presenter, 58, was awarded the trophy for his interview with Cristiano Ronaldo last year.

Posting a selfie holding up the award after the event, Piers could be seen sitting in the back of a car wearing a smart suit.

He captioned his snap: ‘Delighted to win Interview of the Year at @tricawardsuk for my @cristiano scoop. Thanks to my brilliant team at @piersmorganuncensored and thanks again Cristiano.’

Making sure to give his own horn a toot before signing off his post, Piers added: ‘I may need to borrow one of your trophy cabinets at this rate!’

Last year’s interview saw the world-famous footballer, 38, speak to Piers about everything from his time at Manchester United to his eventual retirement.

Piers’ win comes after he threw his support behind Lewis Capaldi following the singer’s performance at Glastonbury.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old graced the Pyramid Stage, after announcing earlier this month that he was taking a break from all commitments until the music festival.

Lewis, who has Tourette’s syndrome, broke off from the middle of a song while on stage, but his audience was on hand to give him a boost, singing the tune loudly in unison in a beautiful show of support and solidarity.

A clip from the performance circulated on social media, with numerous members of the public expressing how moving a moment it was.
