The Idol finally came to an end this week after five unbearable episodes starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp.

The panned drama follows the complex relationship between an aspiring popstar (Depp) and her ‘guru’ Tedros (The Weeknd) and was even put out of its misery a week early with an episode slashed at the last minute.

Each week, every episode would provide another agonising moment which would subsequently go viral, from ‘the worst sex scene in history’ to ill-judges jokes about Jeffrey Epstein.

It was often described as ‘torture’ porn and while The Weeknd – real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye – is one of the best vocalists and most successful artists in recent memory, his acting skills went down as well as a Tory politician hosting their own talk show – disastrous.

Regardless, it’s been a huge moment for the Blinding Lights singer, 33, and he marked the end of a significant chapter in his career many of his fans would rather forget.

Sharing some pictures of The Idol, he captioned the collection of photos: ‘The finale. grateful to share this moment with you all as the season comes to an end.

‘Continue to push the vision no matter how bumpy the journey.’

The response? Well, the number one comment which has so far racked up 18,000 likes and currently sits right below the heartfelt words: ‘Please don’t ever set foot on a movie or TV set ever again.’

Maybe it gets kinder as you scroll down? The next post read: ‘The Weeknd carried this show . . . to the grave.’

OK so you get the jist.

There were some followers who remained loyal to the singer though. One wrote: ‘I enjoyed it , I don’t know what the hate is for honestly,’ while someone else even begged for a season two.

One fan went as far as to call it the ‘best series on earth.’

Depp recently defended The Idol and its slammed sex scenes.

‘I was never interested in making something puritanical,’ she told Vogue Australia.

‘It’s okay if this show isn’t for everyone and that’s fine – I think all the best art is [polarising]. I’ve never felt more respected and more safe on a set, honestly.’

The Idol is available to stream on NOW.
