Sky News presenter Deborah Haynes had a very unwelcome guest while reporting from the NATO summit.

The security and defence editor, 46, had been informing viewers of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s arrival at the meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania when she was rudely interrupted.

‘He’s going to be taking part….’ she continued on Tuesday night, before gagging and spluttering.

Turning away from the camera to erupt into a coughing fit, Deborah announced: ‘I just ate a fly.’

The poor journalist, who took the blunder with good humour and cracked a smile, faced viewers and continued to clear the, um, fly in her throat.

She later tweeted a clip of hilarious incident and captioned the post: ‘”I just ate a fly” – the perils of recording a TV piece at night with bugs swarming around the light. #NATOsummit.’

It is almost exactly nine years to the day that Deborah’s Sky News colleague Adam Boulton suffered a similar fate.

However, rather than trying to expel the creepy crawly, Adam instead pulled a pained expression as he ingested it mid-sentence.

Elsewhere, the BBC has suffered several blunders of late, including newsreaders not realising they’re still on air, and technical issues leaving the studio in darkness.

Just a few days ago, the broadcaster suffered an awkward technical glitch during a broadcast of President Biden meeting King Charles.

Ahead of the important meeting, the channel was airing scenes of Windsor Castle, when suddenly, the scenic view was replaced with coloured bars and a clear disruption.

Not only that, but the ‘BREAKING’ banner appeared on the screen while a rolling feed showed the words: ‘Field operations, Sky News, London.’

As the camera turned back to an interviewee, a reporter said: ‘Oops! We’ve lost the picture but there we go!’

Viewers were left giggling at the error, with one writing: ‘Still find it funny when BBCNews use SkyNews feed, or vice versa. Even more funny when the feed goes down.’
